Hey All!

There are 2 small but interesting mentions of BP in a new book on behind the scenes at the Oscars. The book is called "The Big Show : High Times and Dirty Dealings Backstage at the Academy Awards" and it is by Steve Pond. If you go to Amazon.com and find it, there is an option to "search inside" the book, if you type in Bernadette you can find the mentions of her and read them. I would cut and paste, but the site doesn't allow you to.

Thanks so much, GA.

page 29:
"The last musical number on the agenda was the first one in the show: an opening sequence set to Stephen Sondheim's "Putting it Together" and sung by Broadway star Bernadette Peters. "Bernadette will be arriving in LA next Monday," Cates told the staff. "And as is her custom, her assistant will be driving her around in a sedan without a phone."

The song would be recorded the following Tuesday night; later in the week Workman would shoot a movie that would introduce, incorporate, and illustrate the song. "One thing to remember, though, is that its a little too long now." Cates said. We might want to cut some of it. But if we see things we think need to be changed, we need to let Bernadette and Sondheim know at the same time. They're best friends and they talk on the phone constantly, so we don't want one of them feeling left out if the other knows something first."

The Big Show is an amusing but not terribly gossipy look at the Academy Awards. If you're looking for that, the Inside Oscar books by Damien Bona are the ones you want (fair warning-the first one is enormous, but they're addictive).

Damien Bona also wrote the hilarious "Starring John Wayne as Genghis Khan: Hollywood's All-Time Worst Casting Blunders," which includes a very funny chapter skewering Bernadette in Slaves of New York.

That "Putting It Together" sequence is one of my all time Bernadette moment favorites. When I get the hang of my DVD program and start compiling DVDs, I am going to find the best quality video of that I can find and put that first on my personal Bernadette collection...
