With Sam Mendes apparently directing the Sweeney Todd movie this year, do you think there's much chance of Bernadette getting the part of Mrs.Lovett? They have a prior relationship, so that may help. PLUS she'd be utterly fabulous in the role! Is it too much to hope for?

I think there's some chance, but I wouldn't bet that it's a very strong possibility. Just my opinion--and I'm a complete pessimist by nature.
I think the creative team would love the idea, but the studio people would not be likely to approve the casting of someone seen as primarily a theatre performer.
In fact, I'm not at all convinced that the film will ever really happen, no matter what may have been announced.
I just hope that all my negative hunches are proven wrong, because Bernadette in Sweeney would be a dream come true.

Excuse me for posting in this section...but since we are on the topic of Sweeney Todd... I have been looking for the Sweeney Todd DVD with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn. I haven't been able to find it, even though I have heard that it does exist. I would love to purchase this because the video that I bought years ago is starting to show it's age! Let me know if it does exist!
