Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 11/19/2004 at 6:51:48 AM ET If you're getting it just to see Bernadette, you may be disappointed: she's only in the first 15 minutes or so. However, I find it interesting to see her early work, where she seems to have often been cast as an aggressive, loud, self-involved beauty. None of the gentle, vulnerable, sweet persona that we see later.
That said, I very much enjoy watching plays/movies of Odets (and others) and think this is an interesting slice of life.

It's worth seeing on its own for the historical interest of the play and the other actors involved, but Bernadette is really, really good. As Jean said, her character is completely unlikable--a very tough, vulgar, phony, destructive woman. She plays the part very directly, without any attempts to soften it or garner sympathy. It's a smaller, supporting role, but very memorable.
