after Gypsy? When I went she did and I thought it was great to hear the 'real'
Bernadette, out of character!
It was Saint Patrick's Day, and Bernadette
asked if there were any Irish people in the
audience - my friends and I cheered, and she
asked us if 'we were going out for a (she makes drinking motions)' She then started talking in an Irish accent, and the whole
audience was laughing, the cast too.
Didn't ye know I could talk like this? she
asked them. Then she stepdanced off stage,
to huge laughing and cheering! We thought it
was really funny, and that's when I knew I loved her!

"The current revival of Gypsy at the Shubert Theatre — starring two time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters — will begin talkback sessions March 17.
Beginning March 17, the classic Jule Styne-Arthur Laurents-Stephen Sondheim musical will offer talkback question-and-answer sessions with cast members following Wednesday night performances. Theatregoers who attend Wednesday evening performances will have the opportunity to ask questions of the cast following the performance."

Bernadette:"I have a drapery problem, but I won't bother you with it."
Regis: "What's the problem?"
Bernadette: "There's too much light coming in."
Regis: "That's a problem with the drape itself."
Bernadette: "I don't have any drapes...and that's the problem!"

They speak to the audience at curtain call (which is what Anon was probably referring to) and raise money through donations or auctions. The actual competition is held to give prizes to Easter Bonnet's that the shows create and also awards for raising the most money during the previous 6 weeks. A similar competition is done in the fall and is called the Gypsy of the Year Competition. The fundraising is the same and they give prizes to those who raise the most. Instead of creating Easter Bonnet's, each show performs a skit.

| posted: 9/8/2004 at 10:54:31 PM ET Wasn't that during Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, too? I was at the matinee performance on St. Patrick's Day and she spoke to the audience after that show, too, telling people about the charity and about the things you could buy, the proceeds of which would go to Broadway Cares. When she spoke to you after the evening performance, did she mention anything about Broadway Cares and tell you there were things in the back of the theatre that you could purchase? Does the Easter Bonnet thing have anything to do with the Broadway Cares project? Just curious. I've never heard of the Easter Bonnet competition before. Sounds fun!

Gypsy was fourth runner-up in 2004 (Easter Bonnet); hard to beat Hugh taking off his shirt and auctioning it.
