This article has a wonderful line about Bernadette. Both the Bernadette w/ Steve Martin and British mini-series versions of "Pennies from Heaven" went on sale yesterday. Amazon has the Bernadette dvd for $13.98.

From: Boston | posted: 8/2/2004 at 2:11:38 AM ET Please forgive my lack of knowledge of this movie. I just bought the DVD. I'm a little confused, does Steve Martin's character get hung at the end? He was standing by the noose and then it switched into a dance number. I enjoyed the film, really liked the contrast between the depression and the glitz of the hollywood musical numbers. It was, how do I say it, um a bit more risque than I expected...and what was with the lipstick on the wife's breasts? OY!
Any thoughts on the movie?

From: NYC | posted: 8/2/2004 at 9:25:50 AM ET The plot was certainly different. I thought the dancing was fun though. Did anybody else notice that Bernadette's character read the story of Rapunzel to her class? Thought that was funny since she ended up playing the witch in Into the Woods. Nice coincidence. I thought her character was very sad and Steve Martin's character was quite sick. I probably won't watch it over and over, but glad I got it.

When it comes to Pennies From Heaven, there's an almost endless number of interpretations to think about and talk about.

From: NYC | posted: 8/2/2004 at 12:22:16 PM ET Thanks for the link. The discussion sheads light on the darker disturbing side of the film. I thought both Steve and Bernadette were terrific in it and I loved the idea of songs fitting life - because I for one believe that songs do fit life and they help life go by. I loved the "Glory of Love" at the end too. I am not surprised that Bernadette won a Golden Globe for it. Wow. I was disappointed that she didn't make it to the reunion. Anybody know why?
