From: NYC | posted: 7/8/2004 at 5:26:43 PM ET Everytime I go home to Texas, I take a large suitcase so I can fill it up with necessities from Wal-mart that cost almost twice as much in Manhattan. That way I have more dough to spend on seeing Broadway shows! Yea!
What is that picture of Bernadette with Tom Selleck from? I have to see whatever show that's from! Every wall of my college dormroom was covered with Tom Selleck posters!
And I LOL at the thought of Bernadette with the Holiday in Your Heart hair doing Wal-mart commercials. Too funny!!!!

I've been trying to locate a copy myself for a while now without success...but I do know that is where the photo was taken. Ed Asner is the "guy in the middle."

From: NYC | posted: 7/9/2004 at 12:53:00 PM ET Thought you "snobs" (LOL) would enjoy the following that I received in an email this morning:
For all my wine loving friends, Walmart will have its own wine...
Some Walmart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item: Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Walmart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important." So, here we go: The top 13 suggested names for Walmart Wine:
13. Chateau Traileur Parc
12. White Trashfindel
11. Big Red Gulp
10. Grape Expectations
9. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merd! e du Pays"
8. NASCARbernet
7. Chef Boyardeaux
6. Peanut Noir
5. Chateau des Moines
4. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
3. World Championship Riesling
2. Sams Shiraz
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine ...
1. Nasti Spumante
The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with both white meat (Possum) and red meat (squirrel).

| posted: 7/9/2004 at 12:54:38 PM ET You know, I've NEVER been to a Wal Mart! I've actually always wanted to go just because everyone always mentions them and I've never been to one. We even had a discussion about Wal Mart in my Marketing Logistics class the other day. Very interesting how Mr. Walton got his company started.
I think it would be great of Bernadette joined Oprah's book club discussion about Anna Karinina.
lol Does nyone remember that episode of Bette (does anyone even remember that Bette Midler had her own tv show lol) when Oprah sent her a book in the mail, and she was supposed to be part of the group discussion. Although, Bette thought the taping was on November 31 (which doesn't exsist), and she forgot to read the book. My God it was a funny episode. Picture Bette powerwalking on a treadmill, holding rescued kittens, singing while her musical director plays a keyboard and trying to read the book, all because she attempted to multitask.

From: NYC | posted: 7/9/2004 at 4:34:31 PM ET Walmart is evil and I think that it will eventually be under the gun by the SEC....but when you're in need of discounts even on name brands, there's no better place. It's way cheaper than Kmart and especially Target. (We are lucky to even have Kmart in Manhattan - does anybody know why there's no Target?)

And Oprah's guide to Part Four should be up shortly. I just noticed an interactive relationships map. Ooh,it's fancy! And it's giving me a headache.

| posted: 7/9/2004 at 4:53:56 PM ET Sister Rose, There was a lame attempt to introduce Target to Manhattan a couple of Christmases ago. They advertised the Target Boat at Chelsea Piers. My then roommate and I were very excited about stocking up on all of our necessities so close to home. There is a Target in Queens that we would often go to but lugging the stuff home on the subway is a bit challenging. Anyway, my roommate had a car and we drove down to "stock-up". The boat ended up being incredibly tiny and had about 20 displays of different gift ideas for Christmas from Target. You could choose one of the displays and then had some stock room with only those items. It was not at all a good representation of what Target is (a more upscale Walmart) so I'm sure most people in Manhattan were not very impressed and the Target people probably thought bringing a real Target store to Manhattan would be a bust. I however, think it would be the runaway hit of the city. Look at the Bed, Bath and Beyonds that have sprung up around the city and are ALWAYS crowded. Because Target tries to remain hip and doesn't market to the small town person (like Walmart does), I think New Yorkers would just love it and I would have a Target closer to me than Queens.

From: NYC | posted: 7/9/2004 at 5:05:20 PM ET Moljul - ugh Bed Bath & Beyond is always a MADHOUSE! I think you're right on Target. There are lots of large empty spaces all over the city that could accommodate it. I wish there was one in Midtown. I drag myself to Kmart when in need of certain paper necessities, but it's only out of desperation. I heard about that ferry boat that was going to Target. But hey we sacrifice to live in the Greatest City in the World!
