I was in my local library earlier. I saw clint eastwood's biography and wondered if i could find any pink cadillac information regarding bernadete. this is what i found;

"first, according to observers on the set, clint made a somewhat obvious play for Bernadette Peters, the offbeat, bubbley actress who has worked more often in musical theatre thatn in Hollywood. On camera, clint and his leading lady envinced a feisty chemistry but off camera, Peters proved oblivious to the star's smooth advances"

oh my god!!!!! my sister loves eastwood but I hate him! how dare he makes pass for our darling bernadette! shes much too good for him!

they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

I read that biography too. Clint must have been on the prowl because, it says that when Bernadette proved uninterested, he went on to pursue the actress who played her somewhat dowdy sister. They ended up having a long-term relationship and even a child together. Well, that's Hollywood. Hope this silly (and old) gossip isn't too off-topic.

Well I wouldn't call Frances Fisher dowdy but she does have a distinctive look. Not a classic beauty. They were together for quite some time and did have a daughter together named Francesca Eastwood. I think Frances and Clint are still friends because I saw a picture of them once with their daughter at a premiere or something for him. Frances Fisher is an excellent actress in her own right.

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean Frances Fisher was dowdy, just the character she was portraying in that film. I took it that she was meant to be a sort of older, matronly sister. No disrespect to Fisher the actres.

You sure know A LOT of infromation about EVERY topic that people post moljul.
Where do you get all your info? I personally wouldn't know where to find the time to absorb all those facts and then explain them to people.
* Not being nasty or anything; I just think it's quite amazing how much you seem to know.

My 2 cents:
When she made Pink Cad..., she was single; she's a good-looking woman with, I would guess, a nice personality-why WOULDN'T Clint "hit on her"? She's probably quite used to this-remember Marty Short saying that everyone in "Goodbye Girl" had a crush on her...

Marty Short had a daytime talk show from Sept. 1999 until Spring (?) 2000. Bernadette was a guest on the show on Oct. 18, 1999. Before she came on, Marty and his sidekick, Michael McGrath, were talking about her, which is when Marty remarked that everyone in GG had a crush, etc. I don't know if there are transcripts of the talk show anywhere, or if it was reported in any form; I tend to doubt it.

By the way, I rather like Clint; I picture him as being rather smooth (boy, didn't I get English!) (Yes, I'm copying-not making fun of...)

Thank you for the compliments (I guess that's what it was) on my vast knowledge of trivial information. And that is about all it is. I remember the trivial, cocktail conversation type of info but never the important stuff. :-) And just to continue on the same vane, I heard (so it might be a rumor) that Bernadette was approached to play the role of the mother in Titanic but she turned it down because of the filming done in the water. Because as well all probably know Bernadette doesn't know how to swim though hopefully she is learning this summer. Some friends of mine talked to BP at her CD signing and Michael said they wanted to learn how to sail but Bernadette had to learn how to swim first. Which is a good idea. LOL But back on Titanic, I think Bernadette would have been great as Kate Winslet's mom though I thought Frances Fisher did a great job too. And Jean, I love the picture next to your name.

lol, jean! i believe bernadette thought that saying "shan't" was very english! well, us english folk aren't as proper-talking as you may think....you should hear some of the girls at my school! anyway, yeah, mojul, i agree. bernadette would have been brilliant--she has the hair for the part!

Why am I up and on the computer? Because it's pouring (we hardly had rain for the last 3 months-quite nice) and I went outside to rescue my paper.
The picture-it's from an article on the 1999 Tonys, although not sure where or when it was taken; she is holding a glass filled with what looks like water and a lemon slice.

Yes, Jenny, you got my little joke-she did say shan't. Well, it's not so much that you are proper-talking as that you are proper-SOUNDING. Can't explain it any better, but I do love London, and someday hope to see more of all of Great Britain. (I was in London this past January and just had a terrific time.)

Bernadette and water-I very vaguely recall a conversation on Regis and Kathie (yes, going back a few years) where Bernadette said she was offered a commercial on, I think, Carnival Lines (or some cruise ship) but she didn't want to do it because it involved actually getting on the ship and she didn't like boats because she couldn't swim. At the time I thought she was kidding; but, I now know, that some of the funny things she says are also true. Guess she overcame her reluctance to get on a boat; didn't she say on Rosie that they had been out on a catamaran?

Titanic-yes, I can see her in it-Kate Winslett and Bernadette do both have great hair. She should have done it-I think she needs more popular roles or mediums. Just think-more people probably see her on a TV show, even Regis, than will see her in a run of a Broadway show.

oh really? what part of london did you see? I agree with you about playing more popular roles. when I try to explain to my friends who she is I have to describe her as lily in annie or as the step-mother in cinderella.
I hope that A few good years makes it big over here--then my friends will see her!

This was my fifth visit to London, so we didn't go to some of the more obvious places. We visited: Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's and a few other Wren churches, Hampton Court, National Gallery, Tate Modern, Victoria & Albert, Tower of London, Chiswick House, Transportation Museum, the cities of Rochester and Winchester; also saw maybe 7 plays. And ate in a lot of small, really good restaurants in the West End (we stayed on the Strand, close to Covent Garden).

In case you haven't guessed, I really like to travel (and, am right now planning for my next 3 trips which take place in the next 7 months)

Whew!

Jean
