"Oh no, you won't. No, not a chance. No arguements, shut up and dance."

| posted: 5/14/2004 at 8:45:19 PM ET I don't recall either one of them ever mentioning how they met? Perhaps someone else does.
But my guess would be they either met through mutual friends, or Carol possibly saw Bernadette perform somewhere and wanted to meet her. I tend to think that Carol only brought friends on her show, and not people that were simply booked by an agent; so she and Bernadette must have been well acquainted before she appeared on the show.

| posted: 5/14/2004 at 8:52:42 PM ET Carol was well known for cultivating young talent as well. She found Vicki Lawrence in a community play. So there is a possibility that she had heard of Bernadette or seen her in something. Bernadette had been in a couple of well received shows and had been on Ed Sullivan so Carol certainly would have had ample opportunity to see her performing and invite her on the show.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 5/14/2004 at 9:06:14 PM ET I remember reading once that Carol Burnett went to see Dames at Sea early on because it was the kind of spoof of old time Hollywood that Carol always loved. She was immediately overwhelmed by Bernadette's talent and arranged to meet her. She quickly became a good friend and something of a mentor. I don't remember where I saw this, but it might have been in a TV magazine in the seventies.

Bernadette played Burnett's classic "charwoman" character. If memory serves me correctly, Bernadette sang "I'm so glad we had this time together..." It was a lovely tribute.

It was strictly clips from the audience Q&A's. They didn't show any character skits. I thought it was histerical. That was always my favorite part of the show because it was so unscripted. And the cast is always so great when they do those reunion shows.

| posted: 5/15/2004 at 5:10:49 PM ET well, they are releasing it on DVD. I'm sure you'll see it eventually. It's definitely worth seeing though. The other reunion shows they had were good, but never great in my opinion. It was mostly like, "Yeah I remember that skit." But very rarely does one remember a great audience/host moment. Plus they showed a lot of moments that have never been aired.

Christine-thanks for the DVD information. Since I missed the show,I'll have to look for it. I like the audience Q&A too-not just for the dialogue, though. I get a kick out of the clothes and hair.
