Thank you, Elizabeth, for researching some concrete evidence.

OK, everybody, take a deep breath.

I had a ticket for the Sunday, May 9 performance of Gypsy --when I got to the theater, at about 2:31pm, one of the men who stands at the box office area was saying, as loudly as he could, that Bernadette would not be in the performance that afternoon. Furthermore, he was handing out a sheet of paper showing how to get a refund. The first line on the paper reads:
"Dear Patron: We regret to inform you that Ms. Bernadette Peters is unable to appear in today's performance of GYPSY due to a physical injury."

I asked when she might return and the man said that she would be resting that day (Sunday) and the day off (that would be today) and most likely would be able to return Tuesday.

I got a refund and was able to run to another theater in time to get a very good seat to Jumpers.

I think those of you who know me through this board, and even if you don't, know that I try to be factual and precise where it matters. This apparently matters more than I realized, sorry I didn't post earlier.

I was hoping it wasn't true. I hope she gets better soon.

As I said originally, I was at the show on Friday night and went back to purchase tickets on Sunday for May 30th. I was at the theater at 2:30, just before the matinee. Many people were turning their tickets in a nd the ticket agents and theater workers were standing at the door informing people of Ms. Peters absence from the show. The board did in fact also state that Maureen Moore wold be playing Rose. I asked one of the ticket agents why she was out and he said "she hurt her leg during the last number on Saturday and was limping. It has nothing to do with her voice, she is fine." I didn't mean to cause controversy, I just wanted to let you guys know.

Thanks Sunny for the clarification and I'm glad you originally reported it. I just read your first post that you heard it from the box office people only and I've known them to not always tell the truth as they sometimes elaborate a bit. I didn't realize you were purchasing your ticket at the same time that people were going in for the matinee, therefore providing you with a definite confirmation that Bernadette was out. It's so easy to start rumors and they have been particularly plentiful on this board. I didn't mean that you were lying but maybe someone was lying to you.

I'm still surprised that it didn't make it into the news.

No problem Moljul. I apologize for being vague when I first posted. I got home and was exhausted ( it took 4 hors to drive back to PA - usually a 2 hour drive) and I wanted to let you all know. I hate rumors and I always want to be sure I have my info straight before I let anyone know. So, I understand everybody wanting concrete evidence. I am also surprised it was not mentioned anywhere official.
