I recently made a cassette recording of Bernadette's Royal Albert Hall concert. (I put the CD player up to the TV and hit the record button) As I was listening to it in the car today, I came to the conclusion that I thought her CD "Sondheim, Etc" should have been recorded at Royal Albert Hall and not at Carnegie Hall. Sure, Carnegie is more famous here in the U.S. but I thought her performance (vocally, that is) was MUCH better in England. Her voice was definitely not at it's peak in New York. (Although, it was around Christmas so maybe she had a cold) However, I think it was not the wisest choice to have her New York performance on CD. Anyone else agree with me on this?
I am truly a happier person because of Bernadette Peters

If so, Angel Records probably decided to make a cd only after they realized what a hit she was in London. They couldn't have done it at the last minute, so they had to wait until another (similar) concert took place.

Maybe I'm not as discriminating as some, but they both seem pretty fabulous to me. Everyone always talks about the Carnegie Hall concert so it would be very frustrating not to have a permanent document of it. Besides, it's one of my favorite recordings. I say we need more BP stuff out there-not fewer.

It is a high point in your career so you want to record it in some way. Probably after seeing the success of the recording and how well the concert was received, they then thought to video tape it in London. I'm sure Bernadette wasn't even booked for London when she did Carnegie Hall since they were almost 2 years apart.

I also like the idea that part of the proceeds from the CD go to a charity.

From Internet Network: 152.163.204.x | posted: 8/21/2002 at 11:40:44 PM ET I'm thrilled that the Carnegie Hall concert was recorded. I was lucky enough to be there and even if her voice sounds a little raspier on occasion than in London, I think the orchestra in NY was better and she just nailed so many of the songs that night. Although I may clap long and loud, I'm not someone who normally shouts and cheers at live events; however, her rendition of Being Alive that night had everyone leaping to their feet and cheering, me included. What was funny was the audible murmur from the audience as they realized she was going to sing that song. I don't know if people were surprised that she was singing it because of what LuPone had done with it in that very venue. I also think the CD is just a great sounding live recording and well-engineered which may also pick up more vocal "flaws" here and there than the video.
While we're discussing the recording, does anyone know why Making Love Alone was removed when it was re-released?

not everyone there could have known who exactly she was and just fancy a night out, a lot of the applause must have been edited and it was the royal festival hall, not the albert all. the albert hall is a LOT older

| posted: 8/25/2002 at 11:28:41 AM ET It's true. Not to insult anyone, but many theatre actors have said that American audiences (especially in NY) are much more outgoing in response to a show or concert. Many say it's because the English have more respect for the theatre than we do; that doesn't surprise me at all.
Personally, I love when an audience is enjoying a show or a singer so much that they feel the need to be loud; however, it's better when it's a concert, and the singer can respond to the people....it's just rude when there is a play or something going on, and people feel the need to ad-lib. I don't know how some of these actors stay in character so well.

I chose and my world was shaken, so what? The choice may have been mistaken...the choosing was not, you have to move on......
