Like what happened when you first met her?

| posted: 4/8/2004 at 11:43:29 PM ET Great topic! I first met her outside the stage door of Gypsy. She came out and went to the side of the barrier that I wasn't on. I was so relieved when she came to our side. She took pictures with me and signed a Bernadette scrapbook that I made. My mom asked her about 6 questions all of which she answered. She even took the time to clarify one answer with Patti. I saw her two times the next day. Once before the show and once after. After the show she remembered me and my mom from the previous night which was absolutely thrilling.

From Internet Network: 152.163.253.x | posted: 4/10/2004 at 4:52:37 PM ET Is it possible that she could have recognized me from the audience? I saw the show a couple of weeks ago and was sitting in row A seat 1. Well, when we went out to the stage door afterwards and she was making her rounds around the barricade--she looked at me and said "Oh Hello" Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part!!

| posted: 4/10/2004 at 5:07:28 PM ET Well in response to BP remembering you, i can personally say that I saw GYPSY in August and met her then saw it again in November. I had the same seats and she recognized me (actually waving to me during bows!!!)It was sooooo cute. When I heard gypsy was going to close i bought tickets for the closing day and since it was close to her birthday, bought her a present. I gave it to her before the show and introduced myself. She said "Oh i remember you, you're sooo cute" and smiled and thanked me.Then when i went agian in March for the ACTORS FUND Q&A, i asked her a question and when I introduced myself she said "Of course, thanks for the present..."and went on to answer the question! So, it is possible for her to remember memorable poeple or moments such as yours
On a side note...each time I saw and met BP, i also met Tammy( who actually lives in the same town that i do) so we had something in common, and Marvin and they remembered me too. Go figure!

| posted: 4/11/2004 at 10:50:08 AM ET I must say that Bernadette has quite a photographic memory. She remembers people pretty much instantly; and considering she meets so many people a day, it's just amazing that she can remember almost everyone's face...not to mention conversations/encounters.
Not to say she shouldn't remember these things....but she really meets A LOT of people everyday.

| posted: 4/12/2004 at 10:32:06 AM ET Thats actually a good question/point. I mean, for myself I didn't do it as a hobbie (lol) but because the 1st time i met her and tammy the pictures didn't come out. After that, it was because of a birthday present. I really don't know though...

From Internet Network: 205.228.12.x | posted: 4/12/2004 at 10:51:29 AM ET Thanks Gypsy1527--so it seems as though you met her a few times and she seemed flattered. I would think, ultimately she would be (or really any other performer) as long as your are respectful of her space. I have seen Gypsy a few times and waited by the stage door each time. I must say I got the impression that a lot of other people did that as well!

| posted: 4/12/2004 at 11:02:04 AM ET I think you have hit the nail on the head there. It's all about respecting her space and putting yourself in her shoes. I was told by someone who knew her fairly well that the big crowds started with Song and Dance and that it was a little freaky for her. Wouldn't it be for anyone? But I think with the barricades and some security, she always seems from stories to be relaxed about it. Though I remember seeing Michael with her a few times at the Annie Get Your Gun stage door and he seemed to stay very close to her. Maybe just to give her a better sense of security.
But I remember a story on some message board back when she was doing Annie Get Your Gun. This woman reported that she wanted Bernadette to meet her daughter and Bernadette was faced the opposite way of the woman signing other autographs. This woman reached out and grabbed Bernadette's arm (I'm assuming just to get her attention) and was surprised when Bernadette jumped and seemed so startled. Apparently this woman couldn't understand that when you are in a mob like that (even though it is a relatively small mob) that you don't grab someone's arm. That would frighten anyone. I know most fans are well meaning but I think the barricades are really what do the trick. Even nice fans would probably swarm her bit forgetting what it might feel like to be surrounded like that.

From Internet Network: 205.228.12.x | posted: 4/12/2004 at 11:19:56 AM ET Well she handles it very well, IMHO. I have been wondering about this. I have gone to see the show a couple of times in the last few weeks (took my parents and clients) and managed to sit up close ( I never can tell if performers can see you from the stage or not) Both my mom and one of my clients wanted to get pics/autographs and I was concerned that when she came to the barricades at the end of the night and if she saw me again---she was thinking "you again"!!
You have all made me feel better!! Thank you!
