"I have never seen this selling tactic before, but tonight at the TKTS line there were a handful of enthusiastic cast members of Gypsy "working the crowd" by walking up and down the line, handing out flyers, chatting, and generally encouraging ticket buyers to come see Gypsy. They weren't high pressure salemen, nor were they desperate and pushy, just quiet, friendly ambassadors for a show they are in and are proud of. It almost had a hometown "Come to our car wash/bake sale" feel, which I found very sweet.
It was a beautful evening (even to stand in line) and I found this method of promoting a show very welcoming and personal. I even got to chit chat a bit with Maureen Moore, who was right there with the rest of them, chatting with tourists.
I dunno. I thought this was very sweet. Who ever came up with the idea, thank you. I really think the out-of-town tourist thought this was especially neat to be standing in line and chatting with real Bway performers.
I didn't go see Gypsy tonight because I've
seen it already , but they alomost [sic] made me want to go again!
*smile*"
Nice.

| posted: 3/25/2004 at 10:29:02 AM ET I have for quite some time been thinking of this company as the Little Broadway Company That Could. They saw they were in trouble and everyone banded together to get through the challenges. I know it has been reported that everyone took pay cuts of some kind or another, they seem to be doing all sorts of neat promos such as this and the CD signing after the show. And their chats after Wednesday evening performances. And it all seems to be working. I'm sure and I hope that the entire company is very proud of themselves as they should be.
LONG LIVE GYPSY!
