I was wondering if there were any plans to get this show filmed for release on dvd "if" it closes. I think that if an official announcement comes that it "IS DEFINENTLY" closing, that theyll film the show. I really think so, cause ive seen so many bdway shows do so well on dvd, including Into The Woods.

The show is already filmed and is in the Lincoln Center archives. Actually, when a show is filmed during its run it is availible for the public to see the tuesday after it closes. This goes for any show. It was recorded last summer I believe and is not under lock and key at the archives until the day (which should be far far from now!).
I think when Victor/Victoria was released for home viewing it was the Lincoln Center filming of it. So its already done...they just need to get it out!!!

Remember the archive filming is not easily available for viewing to the general public. You have to have a legitimate reason to view it - something to do with studying it. The Lincoln Center archive will never be available for sale. It is filmed for archival reasons and everyone agrees to it because it will not be commercially available. Also, it is not a professional video in the sense that it should be sold. Certainly professionals are filming it but from an archival prospective - maybe just one camera that zooms but not what we have come to love in the ITW and SITPWG DVDs.

It is very hard to get a Broadway show filmed for general release because of all the royalties and other technical matters of getting every person involved with the show to sign releases and not demand royalties from the sales. I would doubt that this Gypsy will be filmed for wide release. It's not like it was universally considered a ground breaking production. There is a theatrical film and TV movie of the musical already available and the undertaking of filming it for DVD release is extremely expensive - the producers have already lost over $4 million on this production. Of course I have never been able to figure out how or why the David Hasselholf Jekyl and Hyde production was filmed so I guess we don't have to completely give up hope.

By the way, the commerical release of Victor/Victoria is not from the Lincoln Center archives either. It was filmed as part of a documentary done in Japan, I believe.

Yes, the lincoln center is like the CIA. haha. I can only go once every 3 months, cause im afraid theyll remember me. It funny though, cause i always go dig up older shows to watch them, and they must think i audition like a madman...haha. When really its for my own personal viewing pleasure. Hey, maybe ill get a job there so i can see EVERYTHING....haha.

Yes, I must get back to "preparing for an audition" myself. I've only seen Song and Dance there.
