Well, I just got back from Kids Night from Gypsy. Let me tell you, I was somewhat nervous about seeing the show the day after I found out it would be closing. I felt bad for the cast and everyone involved and I felt like this has got to be the hardest thing to do...perform and realize you only have 20 days left.

This was by far, the BEST performance of Gypsy I have ever seen out of 7 times. Bernadette could not have sounded stronger. She had every single line down, every note, added so many new quirks to the role, and her comic timing was just unbelieveable. She never looked better in the role. The house was sold out completely and it was also the BEST audience I have ever sat in. The jokes got so many more laughs, the tragedies so many awwws, and the shocks so many more "oh my gods!" Not only Bernadette, but the entire cast was unbelieveable. Even the orchestra sounded 3x better and full of such fervor and energy. The trumpet solo was so intense during the overture. The crowd was cheering and clapping for both the trumpet player and the drum player. Bernadette received full claps when she made her entrance. She popped 3 or 4 balloons instead of 1 on Molly. (I guess she really got into it). Some People was perfect. Everything's Coming Up Roses was lit with such emotion and desperation, it was like seeing a new Bernadette and a new Rose up there. And then there's Rose's Turn. Words cannot suffice how incredible this was. The entire house jumped to their feet at the end of this song and clapped for a good minute and a half. Someone screamed out Bravo! She looked up and smiled - you could tell she appreciated it. I was sitting in row B so I could see all of her facial expressions. She received a second standing ovation during the curtain call and when she saw that the crowd jumped up, she literally was blown away by it. Her body like dipped a little and her jaw dropped and then she smiled. Her Kids Night speech was lovely. One person screamed out "You're a true star!" She said "Uh what?" She didn't hear lol. And when the person repeated herself, Bernadette said thank you and the cast standing behind her proceeded to give her applause. She thanked the audience for being such a good one and she encouraged all the kids to come back and see Broadway shows. When her speech was down she hugged Herbie and it was so cute!

All the leads in the show came out to sign autographs including Kate Reinders, Tammy, John, Addison, Kate Buddeke, and of course Bernadette (who by the way took only 25 minutes to get out there as opposed to the normal 45 mins-hour. I think she really wanted to see all the kids waiting for her. By the way Bliss, thanks for the autograph and telling Tammy to sign on our side lol.

Bernadette has stepped up more than one knotch since knews of the closing. This just shows what a true star she is. How she continues to be the best she can be. Some people, upon hearing of such a big disappointment as a closing would give up and be lackluster, not Bernadette. She just blew everyone away. That performance might have been the last one I see and I am so grateful to the cast and crew for their hard work.

I think that what you saw were a bunch of dedicated professionals giving their all.

Well,Megan, that was just lovely. Thank you for posting.

Jean-go get that ticket. I'm living vicariously through you all, since I won't get to New York for a while.

Jenn, who's talked herself into realizing that Wonderful Town may not be around as well when/if I do make it up there. Not that there's been any word-just to lessen the disappointment if it does happen.

That was lovely Megan. You described exactly how the show was when I saw it on Friday. It just goes to show that this particular group is very professional and does not allow bad news to spoil their work or their fun.
Like you said, on Friday I noticed a lot of new quirks that Bernadette had added which made it so enjoyable...especially since I hadn't seen her in the role since July. Everyone gave a phenominal performance when I saw it. Bernadette did kind of trip over the box by the chair during the birthday cake scene, but nobody seemed to notice...except my friend Kristen and I. lol but I notice everything. lol and Kate (aka bliss) almost accidentily said, "I'm electrifying" when she was supposed to say, "If you wanna bump it." LOL She and the other ladies on stage almost started to crack up. They were giggling a bit. It was so much fun.
It's things like that which will keep the show alive in the minds of those who were fortunate enough to see and experience it.

I will try not to be so upset about the closing, but instead be grateful that I had the honor and privelage of seeing this remarkable group of actors and singers perform one of the greatest shows ever conceived. I know I shall never forget it.

For all those who are upset about not seeing the show-just hang in there. She's not going into retirement. If this were being billed as The Final Show Ever, that would be different. And yes, this is a role of a lifetime and a terrific production. I don't think it's presumptious to think that there will be other shows, other concerts (how lovely would it be if she did concerts from a Broadway theater),etc. She's not going to go Greta Garbo on everybody,I believe.

I'm not dismissing anyone's feelings. There's a very good chance I will not see the show, and yes,I am disappointed. But there will be other projects, and by then maybe we can all meet up in New York someday. Or maybe she'll have a concert in or near your hometown and you can brag on the board about it.

Wow I haven't posted here in a LONG time. I've missed you all!!

I was also at Gypsy last night, and was crying on my way home because this was probably the last time I'll get to see Gypsy also. I thought that Bernadette was amazing this time around (remember, the last time I saw the show was in June). Everything was on time, she was in perfect tune and pitch, and well, really made the last time I see Gypsy a really nice one. I wish I could've stayed at the stage door, but stupid parents wouldn't let me.

She basically said that she hoped everyone enjoyed the show and that it inspires people to "make a habit" out of seeing Broadway shows. She spoke about there being no other experience like live theatre. I can't really remember anything specific.
