I just got back from seeing today's matinee. I haven't seen the show since August so I was really happy I was seeing it again.

Our seats were the first row in the left boxes. Our view of the left side of the stage was really bad. We couldn't see "Little Lamb" or the reprise of Small World or anything on that side. I've never sat in a box before so it was pretty neat with the exception of the bad view. The great thing about it was that you could see everything that went on backstage in the wings. I saw two of the guys in the ensemble slow-dancing during "You'll Never Get Away from Me" making fun of Bernadette and John. It was pretty funny. Also, one of the girl ensemble members was mimicking Kate when she was doing "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" (By the way, Bliss, you were hysterical as usual!)It was a little distracting though because you kept seeing all the actors waiting off-stage and the stage crew members holding props.

Now for the review:
Bernadette sounded great even though I think she had a cold and was probably tired after the two matinees yesterday. She and Herbie seemed a little giddy in the beginning, which was cute. I forgot who mentioned it, but Bernadette does do this new laugh thing during the serious moments of the show (Small World reprise and when she says "momma" in Rose's Turn) I like it the way it was before (when she mumbled and looked really sad) but it's always nice to try something new. The show pretty much seemed the same as it was in August, but it flowed better and everyone was very comfortable in their roles. Especially, Coco, who looked like she was actually sleeping in Bernadette's arms at one point. (I thought she was a stuffed animal because she wasn't moving..it was so cute) By the way, the show was SOLD OUT and she brought the ENTIRE house to their feet at curtain call. There were a lot of kids in the audience which was nice to see. A lot of them stayed by the stage door afterwards even though Bernadette doesn't come out after matinees. "Everything's Coming Up Roses" was her best song of the night. It was another enjoyable experience and I'm seeing it again February 3rd (Kids Night).

*I forgot to add... When Bernadette first walks down the aisle, she stopped next to this man. The man looked up and raised his arms like "What the hell is this woman doing?" When Bernadette said "Sing out, Louise!", the man jumped in his seat and pointed at her like "Oh, that was Bernadette Peters!" It was pretty funny.

Bliss is Kate Buddeke (Mazeppa) in the show. She posts sometimes, which is nice! She told us who she was a while back.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I do hope Bernadette gets over that cold soon. I remember reading somewhere that she had bronchitis, but I think it's just a rumor. I remembered it, though, because I had bronchitis at the time and was thinking "How on earth can she sing like this?"

Oh, and coincidentally, I'm listening to "You Gotta Get A Gimmick" right now. I *love* that song. If I didn't have such a dying ambition to play Rose, I'd love to be one of the strippers. (And I can play the trumpet LOL)

i also saw the 12/27 matinee. it was my first time seeing the show, and i was really paranoid that bp would be out. obviously, she was in, as was everyone, and i just thought it was amazing. i had also heard that bp was sick, but i actually thought her voice got better as the show went on. i have to say, i've read so many reviews of the show on this board, and so many people have said that they got the chills watching bp. well, the entire show i watched her, and although she was amazing, i just wasn't getting that "feeling." then came "rose's turn." she was so good, and so into it, and i got chills all over. it was an absolutely amazing moment. the crowed cheered for her for what seemed like forever after that song. i loved the whole cast, and i'm so glad i got the chance to see bp in person.

When I saw the show December 6th, I don't think Bernadette did the "laughing" thing during "Rose's Turn." Infact, I'm positive she didn't b/c I've relived the entire number in my head far too many times to leave out a detail such as that. Maybe she didn't feel like doing it or something that day, lol.

"anonymous", where were your seats? I just remembered seeing John have lipstick all over his mouth after Bernadette kissed him in one scene, and it was so funny. Did anyone else notice this ever during a show?

LOL...That happened to me one time during a show...It was during the footbridge scene of "The Music Man" apparently Marian had just reapllied her lipstick, and i think she did a little too much! Haha...LOL

my seats were in the right mezz, last row. those seats are interesting, because the balcony lurches over your heads, and you can't see the top of the stage. fortunately, this did not affect our view, except when louise comes out of that shell thing during "let me entertain you" and during curtain calls when everyone was standing. i did not notice the lipstick incident, i was a little too far away to see that close on the face i guess. but i did notice how bp and john really seemed to be having a great time. tammy impressed me a lot too.
