Did everyone see her perform for Carol Burnett? She looked so beautiful! (even in those rags)...but they kept zooming in on Carol's reactions instead of Bernadette. The fashion show was hysterical!! So glad to have seen this.

Yeah that was a great tribute to her. Bernadette was adorable! For anyone who's interested by the way, I saw a commercial for TVLand and the Carol Burnett show will be aired on that station beginning in January!

"but they kept zooming in on Carol's reactions instead of Bernadette."

Yeah, well that's kind of the point though. Carol was the one being honored; not Bernadette or anyone else on the stage. Everyone did a great job, and how nice that Julie Andrews SANG! She never sings in public anymore since her operation.
Chita Rivera was histerical! She looked great in that outfit...even Carol was amazed that it was her. And Reba as Norma Desmond hahaha her facial expressions were priceless. Carol looked truly touched when Bernadette came out and sang that song. I'm sure she was surprised to see her there knowing she is in a Broadway show right now; but I know Bernadette would not miss that for anything in the world. She often speaks of how it was Carol who gave her a chance in show business when others were reluctant.

The other tributes were lovely as well. I always think, "Oh, I really only want to see this person's or those 2 people's tributes." But then I really end up enjoying all of the tributes.

If I'm not mistaken, the honorees are not told prior to the performances who will be performing for them. That may have added to the surprise that Carol had with seeing Bernadette and the others. Also, wasn't the show taped on one of snowy weekends where travel was bad? That may have added to the surprise.

she was so adorable, rags and all. but of course incredible as always. i actually liked how they zoomed in on carol's reaction. she seemed to get the most excited when Bernadette came out on stage. she was shocked to see her there. so someone said this was taped before tonight? when was it taped and did she miss a gypsy show to do it? i was wondering about that. it was so much fun to watch her tonight. you never would think a voice like hers could come out of that cute little woman. it always amazes me.

how'd you like them eggrolls, mr. goldstone?!

It was actually taped a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, so Bernadette did not miss a performance of Gypsy; but she's such a good friend to travel to Washington D.C on her one day off...and, she had gotten stuck on the train and was almost late. I believe she arrived with only an hour before the ceremony was to start, so she really didn't get a rehearsal in. Yet she still did a great job!

The reason they zoomed in on Carol's reaction was because BP missed her mark with the bucket she was sitting on and had to move it three times. My friend worked the show. But it's only because Bernadette didn't get ANY rehearsal time in due to travel problems with the snow. Such a pro though! And she looked so cute.

Hi, this is SingOutAnnie.
(I'm at a different computer and don't remember my password.)

I thought Carol's reaction to Bernadette was wonderful!! She seemed truly touched that Bernadette was there and that she sang her theme song.

Bernadette was superb. She looked and sounded terrific. The twinkle in her eyes when she smiles just melts your heart. (If she did miss her mark, that may explain the crossed arms and not singing out as much with Julie. She's such a pro, she may have been a bit embarrassed.)

Did anyone else notice when all the evening's entertainers came out on stage at the end and Julie Andrews reached over and grabbed Bernadette to come stand by her (Bernadette came out behind Chita Rivera and Elaine Stritch)?

I too enjoyed all the tributes. These are among the stellar performers of my lifetime.

Will our Bernadette ever be a Kennedy Center honoree ya think?

I'm sure Bernadette will be an honoree one of these years. She has to be.

I had heard that Bernadette hadn't had any rehearsal time and that something went wrong with her number. I didn't realize it was a problem with hitting her mark, when I saw it I thought she had forgotten her words when she sang with Julie Andrews, hence the crossed arms. I'm sure no one noticed though, I guess we were looking for the mistake. She looked and sounded amazing and I can't wait for them to honour her one day!!!

P.S. The rest of the performances were amazing as well!

I feel really stupid for asking this, but I'm utterly clueless with theatre jargon......what does missing her "mark" mean ....is it not being in the correct position (on stage) or not starting to sing, etc at the right time?

Sorry for being so clueless.
