| posted: 12/16/2003 at 7:07:38 PM ET I was wondering if anyone has any monologue ideas for me to do. I need one for my drama class as soon as possible. It can be a musical or play. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

I learned in class that what makes a good monologue is that you 1. have a problem 2. Illustrate that problem and 3. Make sure that you want a solution from the person you are talking to, or that you come up with one yourself.
The most important part about the whole thing is what you want from that other person...not just telling a story or reciting a long monologue.

Search for "monologue" and you'll find hundreds of books!

From: northern VA | posted: 12/17/2003 at 12:54:14 AM ET Be careful with Southern accents-there's not just one! Just don't use the Steel Magnolias movie as a reference-lovely movie, but the accents are all over the place. It was shot in Natchitoches,so the area really is as lovely as it looks in the movie.
Just a friendly reminder from one of the token Southerners on the board. Don't want to spoil anyone's fun,but these things are noticeable-especially if the movie is set in your state! Just as I might not notice inaccuracies in a film set in a particular region of Canada or Great Britain,in New Jersey,etc-but people living there would notice. And it bugs them too and annoys them, even though they think they should really get over it.
Jenn <--- Louisiana German coast accent, which was more definite when I was younger (nothing close to a drawl!)
