I just read this interesting article that says they are bringing back The Glass Menagerie to Broadway in 2005. Didn't I read somewhere that Bernadette had said she'd like to play Amanda in that production? I wonder if that is going to be her next big production? (Though no names have been revealed yet.)

You know, I remember reading something like that, too, although I don't know where. For the record, I think Bernadette would make a *wonderful* Amanda.

Ohh...I found it...it was from the NEXT magazine interview:

"You're in a phase where there are a lot of exciting roles-like Mama Rose in Gypsy-for women over 40. What other roles are you dying to play?

That's interesting. I haven't looked at it that way. I know [Mama Rose] is a great role and I love having a chance to do it. I'd like to one day play Amanda, the mother, in The Glass Menagerie."

Ahhhh! I want to see her play this role so bad!!!!!!!!! I almost wish they would remake the movie with her playing the part. I'm praying hard that she gets the part!

LOL! Yeah, Marino does sound like a valuable guy to have in your fan camp. I looked at the article in Boston mag and there's a great photo of Marino laughing backstage with Bernadette leaning towards him with a beaming smile on her face. Seriously though, I think Bernadette would be really great as Amanda or any of Williams's partially-but-not-totally broken women. There's no doubt at this stage that she has the acting equipment needed. But, if she were cast, can you imagine the howls and shrieks of outrage from the very vocal anti-BP subgroup? It would absolutely deafen anything that might have been said before Gypsy. And, of course, they would all conveniently forget the fact that Bernadette proved all their dire predictions wrong and triumphed after all. Once again there'd be all of this "miscast" "out of her depth" silliness. Then they'd end up with egg on their face yet again. Oh boy, I can hardly wait!

I love it when that happens because then when she shows them all up it makes them look stupid. I don't think she's seen just as a musical theatre actress though because of all the movies and tv appearances she's done. She is an ACTRESS, very well trained, who just happens to be able to sing. That's why she's given all of the musical roles that actually requires acting!

Bump it with a trumpet!
