I read a review of a Gypsy performance from last week and they mentioned that Bernadette is doing new stuff in Rose's Turn. She apparently doesn't stutter the "momma's" anymore, she she sings them with a mixture of laughing/crying. She also seems to have found new depths in the character, as was expected with a long run of a performance. Anyone see the show in last week and can comment on this?

"It was an ad for Minksy-and the headline said: MADAME ROSE-
AND HER DAUGHTER, GYPSY!-" Act 2, Scene 6

I saw the show last Wednesday and I agree partly with the review you read. She is doing some things differently, but, all in all, the integrity of the number remains intact.

As you suggest, I think she is mining greater depths of the character as she goes through the run. She was thrilling that night, and not just in "Rose's Turn." Her "Everything's Coming Up Roses" was the most chilling I have ever seen her perform it.

Unlike many actors, this is one performance that is far from going stale after many months. It is amazing how fresh and brilliant she still is (IMHO).

The performance I saw a week ago Saturday was the same way. The whole show she was dazzling. I could tell that she was very tired (as anyone is on a two show day), but she was determined not to let that stop her. And yes, SOME PEOPLE was chilling to the bone! It was the most magical performance I have seen Bernadette give!

LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO MABEL!!
