Sam Mendes (Director):
has recently released his latest
movie Road To Perdition, starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law.
His first film, American Beauty, with Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening,
received 8 Academy Award nominations and won five, including Best Director
and Best Picture. In New York, he has directed The Blue Room, starring
Nicole Kidman, Cabaret, which received 4 Tony® Awards and is still
running at Studio 54 after nearly five years, and Othello for the Royal
National Theatre at B.A.M. He has been Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse
in London for the last ten years where his productions have included Assassins,
Translations, Cabaret, Glengarry Glen Ross, Glass Menagerie, Company, Habeas
Corpus, The Front Page, The Blue Room and To The Green Fields Beyond.
In the fall, he will be directing his final productions as Artistic Director:
Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya with the same acting company.
He has also directed numerous productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company,
the Royal National Theatre and in the West End. He has been nominated for
The Olivier Award eight times and won twice. He has also won two Tony® Awards,
three Critic Circle Awards, The Evening Standard Award, The Times Critics
Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was awarded the CBE in 2000.
