Actually dig deeper in McKay's website and find that he has already started "The Second Generation". I sent him an email to find out if he is interviewing Bernadette or not. He better.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Rick McKay; I don't have a date or where it was published--I probably found it in a late-night Lexis-Nexis binge:

"Was there anyone you tried to get that you didn't that you would have liked to be part of the film?
Oh, sure. I was disappointed not to get Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. I tried again and again and Elizabeth Ashley even wrote them a letter explaining how important the film was, but to no avail. Julie Andrews’ agent turned it down three times, finally telling me that Ms. Andrews wanted to do a similar project herself. I told him that she better hurry up as time was running out. Bernadette Peters turned it down four times through her press person."

If you didn't catch Broadway: The American Musical last week check your local PBS station for rerun. My PBS station is re-running it today from 2PM to 8PM.
