I read that a few weeks ago (about how they were probably going to use the Purple/Pink design for the cover), and at the time I liked the idea. But now that I look at it, I would prefer that design to be on the posters, and I would prefer the original Black design with the Gypsy title that has each letter as something else that they use for the poster and playbills now would be the CD cover.

Oh well, as long as I get the CD. lol

I kinda like the purplish pink. It's more of an eye-catcher than just the plain black.

You can also ask a local bookstore if it will order you a copy if it is not expecting a copy on the 19th. Barnes and Noble, for example, will order it for you,and you won't have to pay shipping and handling charges. If your independent bookstores handle music, then they should be able to order a copy as well.

If the bookstore has already ordered several copies, you can put your name down for one of them, and it will hold a copy for you. That's what I did for the Chicago DVD (which also comes out the 19th) and the Gypsy CD. No charge.

If you don't have a B&N,any decent music shop should be happy to order you a copy. Borders has a music section as well. The music shops in your local mall (Camelot,Sam Goodys, etc) should be able to order a copy if they are not expecting a copy (which is quite likely).

I had been hoping that TRAVELING, which is the short mini-reprise of SOME PEOPLE, in which Rose "collects" the boys for the act, would be included on the CD. Although brief, it is quite an electrifying little moment for Bernadette in the show. She really belts it out. This little section has never been included on a GYPSY recording, either. As for the cover, and the appearance of Bernadette's image in all the current advertising, I think it's clear to the press agency for the show that Bernadette is the force behind these big ticket sales--and the enormous crowds in Shubert Alley each night waiting for her are hard to overlook. They are, understandably, using her powerful name and image to their best advantage.

Also happy to see that this recording will have the most complete track of "Let Me Entertain You." On most of the recordings, the song doesn't include any Gypsy's monologue, cutting the song to under 3 minutes. The London CD has some of it, but this one is listed to be 6 minutes and 30 some seconds long. I'm excited, this is sure to be the best recording and definately most complete of the other 4 that are availible

It also seems that "curtain" is not merely bowing music, but the final scene, where Rose and Louise make up, and it probably includes that marvelous chilling last few chords of "Everything's Coming Up Roses," where Rose takes a final look at the stage, as the lights go out on her lost dreams, as the curtain comes down. Musical Theatre doesn't get any better.

I agree about "Traveling." It is a wonderful moment for Bernadette and it would have made a a great addition.

In some early articles about the recording, I could have sworn I saw "Traveling" listed as included. Did anyone else see that or am I dreaming?

I have deliberately steered clear of the story of "Gypsy" because I like to see a show unfold before me without any prior knowledge of the storyline. I don't really like to know specific details or how it ends, etc.

However, thanks to you, Chip1012, the ending of Gypsy has been spoiled because I was unaware that they "made up" as you called it. I ask that everyone on the boards please keep details about the shows plot to themselves so those who are unaware of the story may be surprised.

oh come on now....no one forced you to read it...i dont think that he did that on purpose. plus, this is a place where people come to talk about bernadette and, obviously, Gypsy. i dont think it is fair for you to ask us not to discuss aspects of the show because you dont want to know about them. you could just not read the posts that might contain info to the show.

Gypsy is an old, well-known muscial. Many people know the story, even those who haven't seen the actual musical. I don't think knowing how it ends makes the story any less powerful. And I don't think Chip spoiled anything by posting what he did. Don't read threads dealing with Gypsy if you don't want to find out anything about the storyline.

I agree with Bwaylover on this one. Gypsy is pretty well known. However, Anon has a point (especially since I would feel the same way, sorta, given that I hadn't seen any versions of this musical until last year, when I rented the Bette Midler version.)

Usually (in my experience) this kind of thing can be solved if a poster just puts the word "Spoiler" in the post, and then skips a bunch of spaces before they talk about the plot. It's just something you do out of respect to those who may not be familiar with the plot or the ending, etc.

Anyway.... I am very excited about this album!!! I'm not very experienced with Gypsy (and very unfamiliar with past albums) but this one looks to be spectacular. I always love it when they include dialogue on the cast album. It makes the songs seem much more immediate for me.

However, I stand by my initial response to the cover art: I miss the black background. :-(
