LOL this is such a weird topic. But oddly enough, my mother and I were actually having this discussion the other day because I was watching the Tony's (again), and then I was watching her concert from the 70's. My mom thought she looked better as a blonde, and I like the red hair better.

LOL My mom said, "but she looks younger as a blonde." I was like, "Yeah because she was like 31 years old at that concert. Not 55!" Of course she looked younger. LOL

Can you imagine if she just completely changed the color one day....like dyed it black or dark brown! She's been a red head since like 1983. Her hair is famous. I think she was a brunette past 4/5 years old. Didn't her mom dye her hair blonde when she was 11 or something?

While she might have looked better when she was younger as a blond, I think the red looks better on her now. Really blond hair does not look very good (or very flattering) on too many women. I think that is why many actresses as they get into their 40s and 50s die their hair red - Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews anyone.

She was definitely a blond for Name That Tune so yes, it was 4 or 5. I did go down to the Museum of Television and Radio recently like I said, after we discussed it so much. It was fun to see it again.

I liked it best in the early ninties when it wasn't really blond or brown - kinda in between. An example of this colour is in the sketch "the next dream" on the Carol and friends in 1991 or something to that effect.

they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

dyed it black? LOL! I think it would be more bizarre if she suddenly decided to straighten it. Actually... yes, I think she should try this one evening (since she's probably got stylists for things like award shows) and straighten her hair. Just for kicks, to see what everyone's reaction would be.

Did anyone else here love her wig in AGYG? One instance that comes to mind was when she was on Rosie. It was during previews and her and Tom sang "Old Fashion Wedding". Even though the wig was red, its shape was different and flattered her quite well.

Oh that's right, Jean. You can see it in The Last Best Year. And while I don't have it confirmed I would be willing to bet big bucks that she wore no wig in Let It Snow and her hair is straight when James is a little boy. The reason I'm quite sure it that it is the exact same color and looks kind of frizzy like curly hair recently straightened. And it is really long - I guess when you straighten all those curls out, it gets pretty long. LOL

Her hair was also straight (sort of) in "David", "What the Deaf Man Heard", and "Holiday In You Heart." The last one was definitely a wig; I don't know about the first 2?

Bump! Moljul wrote something about Bernadette Peters probably not remembering her natural hair color. I think that is totally possible. When I was a toddler I was blond, and it gradually darkened, and at some point along that road I started in with blond highlights. I just always colored it, one way or another, from that point on, so I actually do not know what shade my hair darkened to. I recently decided that it would be nice to try to wear my hair its natural color, but I didn't know what it was, and there were too many gray hairs to just let my hair grow. So I decided that my hair would probably be about the same color as my eyebrows, which are very dark brown, and my parents had dark brown hair so it seemed logical. Well, either I was wrong, or my natural hair color looks awful on me! I couldn't get used to it and my husband kind of hated it. So I am having it gradually lightened in as non-damaging a way possible. But anyway, I am 41 and don't know what color my head hair is naturally (beyond generally some sort of brown), and may never find out! Whether that's the case for Bernadette or not, I can't say, but I can say it's possible for a person to not know.
