quote: Scottie--thank Kevin, he put up the picture.
Indeed, the end of this year and the beginning of another seems the perfect time to offer a sincere "thank you" to Kevin for providing this board and the opportunity for people (around the world) to communicate with each other and to discuss the beautiful soul that is Bernadette Peters.
An equally sincere "thank you" to Jean (bringer of news and human search engine)who is just totally amazing.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 1/12/2007 at 7:45:50 PM ET Ok, the picture captions include:
(BTW:The booklet is 16 pages.)
-BP before the opening of ITW
-with Mandy Patinkin in SITPWG
-with Sondheim and James Lapine in rehearsal for ITW
-Scene from AGYG
-BP in Mack and Mabel
-BP in Dames at Sea
-BP in SITPWG
The interview is apparently an excerpt from one conducted by David Foil on
July 15,2006.
I'll summarize the questions:
1) What was it like to enter Broadway just as the "Golden Age" was ending. What was the transition like?
2) When did you know you had a distinctive voice?
3) How have you maintained your voice?
4) What performers influenced you growing up?
5) What do you learn from other singers?
6) How did you get involved with Dames at Sea?
7) When did you know it would be a breakthrough role?
Is there one particular composer who "gets" you as a singer?
9) What was your 1st contact with Sondheim?
10) Were you involved in the evolution of Dot?
11) Where do you begin with the challenge of classic roles (ROse, Annie Oakley, Hildy?)
12) Is it odd to see other people reinterpret your original roles?
13) How has singing onstage changed?
14) Is it frustrating to record cast albums so early during the run of a show?
15) What's the challenge of creating a 3D person out of a non-specific character (ex: Dot, Emma?)
16) What is it about M&M that makes people unwilling to let it go?
17) Why didn't M&M succeed?
1 Was Company or Follies your 1st Sondheim experience?
19) Does his work hit you at once or need to sink in?
20) Is it demanding to sing?
21) Do you remember recording sessions for those albums?
22) Are there any other roles you want to play?

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 1/20/2007 at 12:33:43 PM ET Thanks--it's from Dames At Sea, 1966. I found it on a blog that was discussing a new book on the Caffe Cino.
You know, I wonder if this is the coat that Jesse Green referred to in his article on Bernadette (NY Times, 4/03) when he wrote something about her mother sewing the polka dots on her costume in DAS. Wouldn't that be something. Boy that's a good article.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 1/20/2007 at 1:51:36 PM ET Actually I think that photo was taken at the memorial service for Joe Cino at Judson Church in 1967. Bernadette was one of the performers at the service. Note how her hair had grown out and was quite a bit longer than in the '66 production.
Yeah, I do think that the raincoat was one of her mother's homemade costumes. I wonder if she also made her famous lasagne for the cast parties?

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 1/28/2007 at 1:10:56 PM ET Just playing this new Bernadette CD and adore the layout of the booklet with photos and interview.
Sadly, the sound on Tell me On A Sunday is still absolutely atrocious. Sadder still, because her singing on that track is beyond praise.
I wonder why they didn't include the original Broadway Cast version of Time Heals Everything?
I adore that version because Bernadette is so very young and it shows in her voice - but somehow the sad weariness of her character's disappointment shows through as well. I also miss the wonderful orchestral interlude in the middle of the song.
One last whinge ... with the certain knowledge that lots of us will be putting this straight to our Ipod or MP3 Player ... couldn't someone at the record company have taken the decision to edit that bloody awful scream at the beginning of "Stay With Me"? It always frightens the life out of me!
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on..... :
