As far as I know the song is best known, in the US at least, from Sinatra's version from the late fifties. I assume she was doing it as a sort of homage to him? Or is that too simplistic? She was definitely highly influenced by his recording work from that era. She's said as much, on several occasions.

From: MA | posted: 7/12/2006 at 1:00:35 AM ET This episode was priceless, as was the other one she was on. I actually have EVERY Carol Burnett on DVD...what a hillarious ensemble cast!
I'm sorry you had to pay so much shipping though Scottie! Next time check here! If folks here haven't seen it, I'd be willing to make copies and send the money to Broadway Barks. Let me know if anyone's interested.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 7/12/2006 at 7:57:26 AM ET I am fascinated by Bernadette's work and talent. I have never made a comment or posed a question about anything other than her professional life since that is all that interests me - apart from her animal charity work of course - in my own life I actively share that commitment with her. She is an entertainer and I am one of the people she entertains and each time I discover something "new" I think it's fun to get other fans' opinions and also "tap" their superior knowledge on the subject . Come to think of it - isn't "fan" an abbreviation of "fanatic"? So, you see it's perfectly normal and a whole heap of fun to boot! And I never really understand why anyone would want to inhibit someone else's "fun" .
Doc, heaven help your patients if your spelling on their prescriptions is as bad as in your post. You must put away quite a few. I would have thought that in order to understand and treat obsessional disorders a doctor would at least know how to spell the word "obsessed".
....That's all I want to say to you.
Thanks for all your comments and information on the Carol Burnett DVD featuring BP. I think this is the first time I've seen her tap-dancing in such a great way, apart from Pennies From Heaven of course, which was very different. Interesting to read the reviewers comments about Blame It On My Youth and to learn that the beautiful song is one of Frank Sinatra's, I really couldn't recollect hearing it before. I have quite a few Sinatra CD's, I must check them out. And thank you , Allie, for your extremely kind offer.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

By the way, Northwestern's medical school isn't in Evanston.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/12/2006 at 9:20:14 AM ET I lived in Chicago for decades. I don't need to look it up on the computer. The medical school is completely on the near north side of Chicago (as is the law school). No part of it is in Evanston with the rest of the university. Anyone who lives in Chicago would know that.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/12/2006 at 10:54:22 AM ET Evanston Hospital is one of several loosely affilliated teaching hospitals. Doing a residency there is not the same as going to Northwestern Med School (which you specifically said you did a few posts back).
Ah, yes, the well-remembered Wendy--the one who used to talk about jetting to Meredith Baxter's house on Martha's Vineyard, and schmoozing with "Mike and Burn's" (sic) at the country club. I guess your poor typing skills also involve repeatedly hitting the apostrophe key "by accident."
You know there's a reason why your comments have never been well received. Think about it.

And really, I don't think its appropriate to say you were Michael's doctor whether its true or not. Thats confidential stuff and irrelevant to this message board. If you are a fan of Bernadette's work then talk about that but don't attack anyone else on this board - you don't know them or anything about them so who to give a "diagnosis"?!
I didn't think you could get a PHD in being a sad internet trouble maker - maybe I'm wrong......
they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is
