Chita and friends belly up to the Barre after the show
Chita Rivera doesn't need to wander far for a post-show quencher after her nightly turn in "A Dancer's Life" at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. In fact, she doesn't even need to head offstage.
The most star-studded joint on the Rialto - invited guests only - has been dubbed "Chita's Barre" by venue crew. It's a retractable room just upstage that boasts a fully stocked wine refrigerator, which is diligently administered by the props department.
Chita's Barre, with a seating capacity of six, was designed by the bicoastal interior design firm White Webb Llc. In just the past few weeks it's been frequented by Shirley MacLaine, Melanie Griffith, Victor Garber, Liz Smith, former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, John Stamos, Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey and Nicole Fosse, the daughter of Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse.
