Jean, you crack me up! You are the most direct, plain-spoken person around. If you were a politician, you'd be John McCain or Howard Dean or maybe even Harry Truman. Thanks for your comments. And Chip, I love her performance in Tulips also. I'm always embarrassed to recommend it, because the movie itself is so jaw-droppingly low budget, amateurish, and incoherent. However her performance as a woman with bipolar disorder is astonishingly on target. Again, there are those mixed qualities of funny and heartbreaking that have been mentioned before. Just miraculous, considering the abysmal context.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Mel Brook's "Silent Movie". Bernadette is absolutely superb in it and it is a really funny, clever movie (as usual with Mr. Brooks).
Part of the fun of being a Bernadette fan is to enjoy her farce in silly things like "The Martian Chronicles". She is a professional; she shows up for work on time, knows her lines and gives the best Bernadette anyone can give.

"The Martian Chronicles" was a six hour mini-series that was on NBC in January 1980. It's available on three videos. Bernadette's episode is on the last one. It's a stand-alone sequence with Christopher Connelly, and it's played as pure, low farce. Totally silly, but very funny in my opinion.

Personally, I'm a big fan of her performance on Name that Tune as a five-year-old. Lol! Sorry, I just saw it and had to comment.....

It doesn't appear that it has been released in DVD format. If you have a DVR you could get it that way, otherwise I would just go with watching it on television

It wasn't a movie, as in a movie shown in cinemas. It was a drama originally filmed for Showtime. Single episode dramas that are not part of an ongoing series are rarely released for purchase. Having a VHS release in itself is unusual.

I just watched this movie on youtube and I loved it. How cute was the little boy? I cryed a lot. Dissapointing they only have it on VHS. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it or not.
