From: NYC | posted: 1/16/2006 at 8:49:20 AM ET There were two posts on Bwayworld over the weekend that are interesting:
1. Bernadette has been approached for First Wives Club
2. Angela Lansbury is coming back to Broadway in A Little Night Music.
Has anybody heard more about these rumors?

| posted: 1/16/2006 at 9:43:53 AM ET I've been hearing the rumor about Bernadette ever since they announced that The First Wives Club would be made into a musical. Bernadette does seem to be a favorite for one of the roles (Elise is mentioned most often) among theater chat board fans which often leads people to state she has been approached. I also saw the posting and don't know the poster so I would take everything with a grain of salt and wait for an official announcement or at least a rumor announced in some sort of publication like Playbill, etc.

From: northern VA | posted: 1/16/2006 at 9:59:54 AM ET I've heard the first, but not the second. Bernadette seems to be approached for every other show, so it's not surprising.
While it would be great to see her in a new role (although this won't be a totally new score, from what I understand?), one of the roles I would *love* to see her do-and for which I would definitely trsvel to New York for, even if I'm not in the DC area by then-would be Dolly Gallagher Levi.
(I won't be able to go to New York for Lincoln Center. That is at the height of our summer reading program preparation, and I can't take off time from work. I started preparing after the New Year.)
It's supposed to be one of the Jerry Herman shows in the revival queue (but everyone here knows about "supposed tos" in Broadway land).
If she would feel like doing that particular role at this point in her life is another thing.
(And sorry for going off track! I'm just babbling.)
As for A Little Night Music- I would love it if that rumor turns out to be true. After her husband died, Angela Lansbury said she was (probably) not going to do theater anymore. I would love to see her in this.
Good food for thought this morning, Sister Rose!

From: NYC | posted: 1/16/2006 at 10:28:48 AM ET In the fall of 2004, Angela was interviewed for Women in Theatre, a local show that's produced in connection with The American Theatre Wing. She said that she was definitely considering something. The posibilities are still out there for Angela to do "The Visit" (which she dropped because her husband became ill). Although Chita told me and Noah that it is still a possibility that she will bring it to New York if they get the funding - which is now highly likely since she's back on Broadway in a quite high profile role (wink). There are also rumors that Angela will still be doing "70 Girls 70" for Encores. I don't care what she does as long as she's here. Also, I don't care what Bernadette does as long as it's something. A staged reading of the phone book from either of these ladies would suit me.

It appears to all be a not-so-funny joke by one of the posters.
