Isn't she JUST AMAZING?!

He applauded for everyone who came out at the beginning, but when Bernadette came out, he started grinning like a madman and opened his mouth really wide and cheered. Then when she was singing, he sat with his chin in his hand, his head tilted to the side, and a very rapt expression on his face. He also laughed louder at her jokes than at anyone else's. I think it's definitely safe to say that she's the "teacher's pet" of the Sondheim circle.

Sadly I don't have the Kennedy Center Honors with Stephen Sondheim. Would anyone who has it be willing to copy it for me? I would be eternally grateful!!!!!

| posted: 10/2/2004 at 12:06:45 AM ET Hey guys! I just came back from Opening Doors and let me say it was amazing. All of the cast was so amazingly talented. Greg Edelman wasn't there today due to vocal problems. So thats about it concerning the cast. The show itself had me in tears especially during "Everything's coming up roses" and "Being Alive".
Here's the real story: I got a student discount ticket and was situated in row O whcihc is practically the last row on the floor. I got to my seat about 10 minutes before show time and read the playbill. People were starting to fill in and I turned around to see if BP would come. Anyways, no hope there but from the corner of my eye I saw a man walk in and quitley sit rigth behind me. I turned around and it was none other than STEPHEN SONDHIEM himself!!!! There I am just sitting waiting for a preview to start and the genius himself is right behind me. No one else throughout the whole show noticed. He took notes and went backstage during intermission. I am one who usually isn't star struck and I was in utter shock. By the final ("being Alive") I had convinced myself ot talk to him afterwards. Just as the show ended I quickly turned around to find that he had gotten from his seat and slipped out. Oh well! Anyways, how many people can say that sat right infront of a true genius!? lol!!

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 10/7/2004 at 10:38:05 AM ET I saw this concert yesterday, enjoyed it. The concert is very good but certainly isn't great-with-a-capital-G. I did like hearing the familiar songs sung differently-"Barcelona" oh-lay-oh-my. I listened very carefully at their take on Everything's Coming Up Roses--quite different from Bernadette's angry, desperate, fierce interpretation, but that's what makes concerts like this so interesting. The lesser-known songs and those that were dropped were some so-so, some terrific (I love "It's Always a Woman" from Anyone Can Whistle, but Bernadette and Madeline did it better). I thought I saw tears running down Jan Maxwell's face at the end of "Sunday", which, for some reason, really got to me as well.
Saw Eartha Kitt, actually said something like: "Excuse me, Miss Kitt, that is you, isn't it?" She had the grace to smile at me.
Also sat next to the West Coast reviewer for ATC (Richard) and his partner (Eddie) and had a very nice intermission and afterwards conversation.
All in all a rewarding day in New York, but boy am I tired.
