Hi guys--

Well, I just got home from Liza's concert at the Town Hall Theatre and WOW!! It was UNBELIEVABLE!! She totally brought down the house!! She got a standing ovation pretty much after EVERY song...she even got a standing ovation HALF way through "New York, New York". Some personal faves of mine were...Some People, Something Wonderful( eventhough Bernadette sings them both better), "NY,NY",a song David Gest wrote...but I cant remember the name of it..but it was very pretty! and Cabaret. She also kept introducing celebrities who were in the audience every so often...like Tony Bennett, Kander and Ebb,Leslie Gore,Neil Sedaka, Patti LaBelle, Donna McKechnie...ect. It was such a wonderful concert. Definately had the most enthusiatic audeince of a concert or show that I have probably ever been to! If you guys have a chance GO SEE HER!! She has two more shows there tomorrow night!!

Cindy

What's great about Liza is the energy she has while performing. Let's face it, she's not the greatest singer (especially compared to Bernadette), but there is just something about her that gets everyone in the audience cheering for more. She's not a bad singer at all, but she just surpasses her voice with her own physical performance. I never wanted the concert to end.

I think Judy definitely had a far superior voice than her daughter Liza ever had but Liza is a MUCH better entertainer than her mother! She is a master at knowing how to connect with an audience! I think Liza and Bernadette are two of the best when it comes to that!

It's so funny that you said that Cindy, because I was watching the "Judy, Frank, and Dean Concert" the other night (after seeing Liza) and I was thinking the exact same thing. Judy has a much better voice than Liza, but Liza is a much better performer.
Just goes to show you that can't have all the talent...unless you're Bernadette Peters LOL

What's this nonsense about Bernadette out singing Liza Minnelli? Clearly non of you have ever heard Liza at an early age, true her vocal abilities has declined a lot during the last 10 years, but please keep in mind that she had a vocal surgery a couple of years ago. Sorry to say this but Bernadette Peters is relatively unknown outside the U.S while Liza is a legend and practically known by everyone. As to Liza being a better performer than Judy, I think it's somewhat true, but then again Judy Garland was in a class of her own, My dad went to see Judy back in 1952 and it was the event of his life. But, yeah Liza Minnelli is fantastic and so is Bernadette Peters...STOP COMPARING 'EM.

Thats right R. Chris......i forgot so many ethiopian children are such big Liza fans....and you know they all have her posters and copies of Cabaret on DVD....Go to London or Paris and say Bernadette Peters and see if she isn't "relatively unknown outside the U.S"

Some People....

If Bernadette Lazzara hadn't become an actress, what might she have done?

Bernadette:I don't know. Probably shot herself! (Laughs)

well put Jarred! Bernadette certainly is amazing and is considered by many a living legend. You can't compare two talents like Liza and Bernadette...there's no reason, they're both legends and are both well known outside the US!

We are lucky to have them both.

There are people who follow the "career" of Paris Hilton and her ilk....

Come on...did you see Peters in Gypsy?
...her voice is way too thin and without any prowess at all...plus I hate to break it to you, the reviews she got for Gypsy, were less than impressive.

Still love her though,

"YOU can tear down the black crepe, boys. Take the hearse back to the garage, and start popping Champagne corks. Momma's pulled it off, after all -- big time.
Playing a role that few people thought would ever fit her and shadowed by vultures predicting disaster, Bernadette Peters delivered the surprise coup of many a Broadway season in the revival of ''Gypsy'' that opened last night at the Shubert Theater.
Ms. Peters, a beloved eternal daughter of the American musical, has taken on that genre's most daunting maternal role: Momma Rose, the ultimate stage mother in the ultimate backstage show and a part cast in bronze by Ethel Merman more than four decades ago. Working against type and expectation under the direction of Sam Mendes, Ms. Peters has created the most complex and compelling portrait of her long career, and she has done this in ways that deviate radically from the Merman blueprint. "

Ben Brantley, New York Times, May 2, 2003

Thank you for your attention, Master/Miss Chris.

(Oh, to respond to your question, I, as almost everyone posting on this board, saw The Queen of Broadway in "Gypsy". More than once.)

R. Chris, I'm just not following you. According to you, Bernadette Peters was not good in Gypsy, has a thin voice, and has no prowess whatsoever. Okay, well and good; personal opinion. If that's the way you feel, why do you then also say she's fantastic and you love her. What exactly do you love about her?

I love her fantastic persona and her amazing capability to immerse herself into the character she's playing.
I just don't fancy her voice that much, personally I did like her in Gypsy but how could you possibly compare her to legends like Ethel Merman and Angela Lansbury who are the roots of Broadway ?
