Hey everyone! I am finallt going to see GYPSY this weekend, when I will be in NYC looking for an apartment (yes, I'm moving, and I can't wait!). I just hope I find something quick enough so I can spend the rest of the weekend taking in some more shows!

*~When will it be Brandon's Turn?~*

Ugh. I just went through this and it SUCKS. The real estate market is AWFUL. Make sure, if you're serious about looking, that you have all your information in order -- this includes your credit info, guarantor info if you need it (and his/her credit info) employment history, and references. (Also, you might want to go online and run a credit check on yourself first, so you know what the landlord will be seeing when they run the check themselves.)

It's important to be ready (to take an apartment really fast) because the real estate market in NYC is basically "here today, gone tomorrow." Apartments go FAST. The good ones, sometimes in less than a week of being available.

The apartment I just signed a lease for is in Washington Heights, which is actually a nice area. It's upper UPPER west (as in Galinda of the UPPER uplands -- LOL) but it's well above Harlem, and really lovely, and less expensive than lower Manhattan (or anything in the 70's and below, I want to say) and a very diverse area, and close to subways. In my building, there are a lot of young twenty-somethings. But down the street are mostly families.

Good luck!! And have a blast at GYPSY. You won't be disappointed!

Q: Any funny incidents or accidents with Kristin (Chenoweth)?

Norbert Leo Butz: I have this Errol Flynn moment where I swing in on this rope. One night in San Francisco, I let go of the rope and the rest of the actors started cracking up. I turned around and the rope had literally tied around Kristin's head and got caught on her crown and was pulling her off stage. It was like watching Barbie get hung.

UFCGuardgirl, I was wondering if I could ask you a question...(you don't have to answer as it is somewhat personal) but how much do you pay a month where you're living? I've been looking to move to the city, specifically the Upper West Side, for some time and I was wondering if you could tell me first hand a ballpark figure for a decent place. Nothing big or fancy, just liveable and secure. I'm looking specifically in the area of approximately W60th-80th street and Broadway because it is near a school I'm interested in. Any info you could give me would be great! Thank you

Hi there

You can email me at

Leiaj21@hotmail.com
and I can answer any questions you might have. I'd answer them here, but... well, they are personal. lol. I was going to PM you but for whatever reason, I didn't see the function activated under your name.

But I can definitely tell you all you'd want (and not want) to know about the NYC real estate market. I have never been so disgustingly familiar with anything in my life as I have been with that for the past month and a half.

Broadway18,

I don't know the first thing about your financial situation but assuming you are a student and poor as students are apt to be. :-) You are looking in one of the most expensive areas of Manhattan. A 7x7 room will probably run you about$1100. Your school may have some subsidized housing or a roommate will help the situation a great deal. Otherwise, you may want to serious broaden your search area. The Upper West Side unless you are talking about above 120th Street is inhabited by wealthy or at least extremely well to do people or people who moved there 10-20 years ago.

You should also consider looking into the other boroughs. Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx are all connected to Manhattan by subway, so it's not a terrible commute. Staten Island has an excess amount of housing and apartments (I'm surprised we haven't sunk yet) lol, but it takes a little more effort to get into Manhattan. Still, I live on SI and still get to school in Manhattan everyday.

I would suggest Long Island or New Jersey, but it can get expensive coming in from those places everyday. At least with all 5 of NYC's boroughs it's only $2 each way for the subway or bus, with free transfers.

I'm one of the crazy Bernadette Peters fans who became a serious fan once my children were old enough so that I didn't spend all my time being mommy. I saw AGYG way too many times, as well as Gypsy, of course. Unfortunately, I ran out of money for that activity awhile ago. I attended most of her concerts post AGYG, even San Francisco and Dallas. I have followed Kevin's website since its inception, but I was always to lazy to register and post. I recently went to work as a Manhattan real estate agent after devoting a year to my own apartment search for my family of seven (you can see why it took a year) and would be thrilled to try to help out a fellow Bernadette Peters and theater fan. I could start doing a search for you if you email me with some information about how much you're willing to spend and where you're willing to live. I have access to listings all over the borough, both fee and no fee, and can show you whatever you're interested in seeing. It is usually helpful to get some help from a salesperson because many of the listings are only available to them and it doesn't cost you anything. My email address at home is charm@rcn.com

Hey Charm! lol I won't say you're name on the board, but I know you right? I know, I sound crazy, but I wanted to see if you are who I think you are.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions! I'm not quite ready to start looking yet cuz I know things are on the market one day and off the next, but when I do I'll remember your offer Charm! Thanks! I live in NJ about 30 minutes from the city so I am already in a real easy position to commute, but I reeeeaallly want to live in the city. I'm gonna see how I do and where I end up goin to school and hopefully eventually I'll get there. I've heard a lotta people say you gotta do it when you're young or you never do it so I'm gettin ready lol. Well thanks for everything guys! I really appreciate it!
