| posted: 5/16/2003 at 11:02:48 AM ET It was tentatively announced to come out in July. The 22nd comes to mind. However, it is normally recorded shortly after opening and I'm doubting with Bernadette's illness that it was. Since this is her first full week back they are probably going to give her a little time to get her voice at 100% without adding the stress of a recording. I don't know if this delay will delay the release but I would assume so.

From Internet Network: 66.134.207.x | posted: 5/16/2003 at 9:01:41 PM ET I'm glad they are waiting. We certainly don't want another recording like the one Daly had to do when she was ill and couldn't get postponed.
Hope it's fairly soon though. I have the Merman, Lansbury and Daly recordings which I never played much in the past cuz I never found any of them very satisfying, but have been listening to since seeing Peters. It is fun to listen to the different versions. The Sondheim.com site has an interesting track by track comparison which includes the Midler version too. Personally, I love the different way Peters sings some of the notes. In Everything Coming Up Roses the way she sings "think" in the line "They think that we're through but baby" and the way she sings "through" just before the "sunshine and santa claus" section sounds higher or something than others. The "spreadin' it around" part in Rose's Turn is great too.
Anyway, if anyone has made it past all that excited rambling, since this is a revival do you think they could have recorded the album before they went into previews? I think Peters grows in her roles, but for those of you at the first or early previews, have her take or interpretations of the songs changed greatly?

There's also an article comparing Buckley's London concert CD and Peter's Carnegie CD. Don't know why he didn't do Buckley's Carnegie CD instead. Anyway here's the link: http://www.sondheim.com/commentary/track5.html

| posted: 5/17/2003 at 1:14:23 AM ET I would definitely say that her interpretations of the songs has changed (for the better) since Previews.
I know there aren't many songs that she doesn't sing at least a part of, but some of them can be recorded now (If Mama Was Married, Gotta Get A Gimmick, All I Need Is the Girl, Baby June and her Newsboys, Dainty June and her Farm boys, The Overture). That would save on time anyway.

Registered: 2/16/2003 | posted: 5/17/2003 at 2:24:44 AM ET those comparisons were wonderful to read...thatsnk for sharing them. i totally agree with the very flattering things he said about bernadette, and no, "star" is not a big enough word to describe her...she is undefinable!
i also found it interesting that he thought she might not be selfish enough to play rose because guess what, she has yet again broken the mold that no one else had done til now.
one question, my sondheim, etc. cd does not have making love alone and i would really like to hear it. was there another version or soemthing that did include it or what?
