From: Mississippi | posted: 12/30/2005 at 2:47:26 PM ET On a recent visit to NYC, while standing in line at the Regis and Kelly show, I was talking to a family also visiting NYC. I mentioned that I was a fan of Bernadette Peters and she excitely began to tell of seeing her by the stage door at Sweeney Todd the night before. She took a picture of her daughter with Bernadette(not posed, the daughter just stood near her.) As I began to tell of her recently losing her husband she said that now she understood about her demeaner and her appearance. She said that she looked very worn and just did not look happy....that she had always heard how friendly she was. Stephen Sondheim came out and they rushed out the door without any comments to anyone. It just made me feel so sad to hear this, but of course her behavior is only natural at this very trying time in her life. It is good to know that she is getting out with friends. I just thought I would share this lady's comments with you.

My heart aches for Bernadette. It is one thing to be "up" and give your all at her concerts, but I'm sure when she is alone, she suffers greatly. I pray for her every day..and I too am glad she is getting out and not just sitting at home. The holidays must have been very difficult for her and Michael's family as they probably shared some time together. Thanks for letting us know...
To the loveliest lady of song!
You will keep on giving me joy forever...

It must be so difficult for her now with the holidays here. It's good to hear that she's getting out though. Thanks for telling us Carolyn.
