the In Style piece on Bernadette's engagement party from Oct. 1996? I really would like to see the pictures. I've been searching for it forever to no avail. I even checked the NY Public Library's main branch on 42nd st. and the physical copy of the issue is housed in an "off-site" building and would have to be specially requested and mailed etc. Believe me, this is an option, but I thought I would check here first

Also, at the library, they have an online feature where you can search the NY Times from 1851-2001 and they actually give you scans of the articles with pictures and everything. i recommend this because there were some cute things with bernadette from the late 60s. nothing earth-shattering, but next time i am there, i will print anything of interest. this time, i was too rushed.

anyway, thanks!

I don't have the In Style article, hope somebody does.

To get you started on those NY Times articles, read here:

Jazz at the Grand Finale

You also might enjoy reading the reviews of some of her early shows.

I have the issue, but unfortunately have no scanner. Is it just the pictures you are interested in because the article and photo captions are available online thru Ebsco and such. Another couple magazines worth looking up are the Harper's Bazaar from Sept. 1984 where's she's one of America's 10 most beautiful women, Harper's from Jan.'86 celebrating "Big Star Petites" and the Dec.'87 issue which has a Sondheim article. All of these have wonderful full-page color photos that I don't think I've seen anywhere online. There's also an Esquire from Dec. 1986 that has a two page photo collage and full-page color photo. Here's the article:

Broadway Baby: An autobiography in pictures

Great actresses aren't born, they're assembled, and Bernadette Peters is the parts she's played and the people she's been when she played them. Meaning Ruby in Dames at Sea and Dot in Sunday in the Park with George. Meaning Eileen in Pennies from Heaven and Emma in Song & Dance. Meaning the kid with the braids and the broad with the body. Her eyes have stayed the same, shining like mirrors across a darkened theater. And her porcelain skin, too, has stayed the same. And her speaking voice, with its schoolgirl pitch that is saved from silliness by her great gift for inflection. And her mouth -- that has never changed, either -- always looking as if it's just blown a kiss. Peters's roles have rarely been as fine as her talent, but they've been just as varied, and they've made her a star.

She began her career as a child actress: Horn and Hardart Children's Hour, The Kraft Family Showcase. At thirteen, she played Dainly June on the road in Gypsy. At eighteen, she made her Broadway debut in Johnny No Trump, which closed in one night. Her big break came with Dames at Sea, her following with her movies. But it wasn't until her last two Broadway roles that Frank Rich declared Peters "has no peer in musical theater right now."

She's bright, funny, modest, and in love with her work. "I've known for a while," she says, "that this was what I should do."

If she hadn't, someone else would have figured it out.

Is there an article accompanying the Most Beautiful Women feature in Harpers? If so, is it any good??
