Terrible, terrible news. To find someone you can love so deeply and then to have them yanked away. I couldn't imagine.

I am in a state of shock. I met Michael backstage at a Dallas concert, and they were so awesome together. He was dressing the part of a Texan complete with cowboy hat and Wranglers. I just feel like this isn't happening. My prayers are with Bernadette and her family.

I've contacted someone at Broadway Barks to ask about how to donate in Michael's memory. When I receive a response, I will be sure to pass it along for anyone who wishes to do so.

I can't believe this. I read it on someone's LJ and thought that it was some sick joke, but clearly it's not. This is so sad and tragic. My prayers and thoughts definitely go out to Bernadette and her family.

Mandy - let me know what Broadway Barks says to do.

I can't even imagine what Bernadette is going through right now. This is just terrible.

If there's any good news about this horrible tragedy, it's that Michael didn't suffer. They hit a high-voltage cable, so I assume it was instant. Of course, the shock and grief we're feeling doesn't begin to compare with Bernadette must be going through. This all feels like a bad dream.

I know I haven’t posted in awhile, but I was so shocked and saddened by this news that I felt compelled to write.

Mandy, once you find out how we can donate to Broadway Barks in Michael’s name, maybe we should organize at “Fanadettes” fundraising effort, to show our condolences and support. For example, one person can collect money from all who want to donate for a week or two and then we can send a big card with all of the contributors names, along with a short condolence message and a check for Broadway Barks in Michael’s name. I think that would be a really nice gesture, and knowing how much Bernadette appreciates her fans, she would probably be very touched.

Just a thought. I thought about sending a condolence card or something, but I think this might be a much better idea.

I am shocked. This is so shocking. I keep thinking of that questionnaire she did with the New York Post during AGYG and one of the questions was what can't you live without? Her answer was "my husband."

So sad.

I will let everyone know when I find out. I didn't want to assume that people would automatically want to contribute. I will leave it completely open for people to contact me with an interest in contributing.

I really just do not know what else to do, but I think this would be a great place in which to honor his memory.

I just really felt the need to post this link. It's good to remember there were many happy times. It's a beautiful picture.

sorry about the double post. What I was going to type was that I think its a great idea to make a contribution in his name and would gladly participate!

From B92 News Service

Four die in helicopter crash | 10:28 September 27 | B92

ZABLJAK, ZRENJANIN -- Tuesday – A helicopter owned by jailed military supplier Mile Dragic has crashed in Montenegro, killing four people.

Killed were pilot Milan Minic from Belgrade, Dejan Kujundzic from Zabljak, French national Fernand de Vazier and US citizen Mike Wittenberg, said Zabljak investigating magistrate Rajko Sibalic.

Police believe the most likely cause of the crash was the helicopter’s rotor blade striking a power line.

The accident is being investigated by Montenegrin authorities and a team of civil aviation investigators from Belgrade.

Who ordered the helicopter into the air remains unclear, because military supplier Mile Dragic, now in jail awaiting investigation of his role in the military procurement scandal, said that no one in his company is authorised to use the helicopter except him.

I couldn't believe the news when I heard. I was at rehearsal and one of my best friends called and left it on my voice mail. Horrible tragedies like this put things in perspective and make you see whats really important in life and how trivial some of those little annoyances that we complain about can be. They did seem to have a very happy marriage and I'm only sorry that it couldn't continue on.
My prayers and thoughts are of course with Bernadette and their family and friends. I'm interested in contributing to the memorial fund as well.

I saw that news story, as well as some others. It's very disturbing that the helicopter was built as far back as the eighties, and was owned by a man who was arrested last week and charged with attempted bribery of the military [apparently to purchase his outdated and defective equipment]. If there was, indeed, criminal negligence, then I hope it can be prosecuted.

I have been in Italy on business for the last several months and we just got the news here. Once I saw the news online, I ran to a local Internet Cafe to post to this site.

Bernadette is well-loved in Italy...many of my friends here have her albums and consider her one of the greatest American performers. They, too, are saddened by this tragic news.

My thoughts and prayers are with her as well as her family and Michael's family.
