While I was wandering through xmradio, I came across this interview with Bernadette.

on the American Theater Wing site:

Another outstanding interview! Never heard that before. Thanks so much, Jean.

It's interesting to hear how the vocal timbre of her speaking voice, back then in the midst of the grueling Gypsy run, was so different from what it is now--much deeper, with noticeable hoarseness.

I never knew she auditioned for Hair and even made it to callbacks.

And I'm so glad she doesn't like new-age music--"the kind that's supposed to make you relax."

Required listening.

So I wonder, if she had been cast, what our "i don't do nude" Bernadette would have done in Hair. I've never seen the show but there is a chorus nude scene, isn't there?

Yes, but the nudity wasn't a requirement. Most of the actors took their clothes off, but Diane Keaton opted out of the disrobing. I think a couple of others did also (they never became famous though, so no one talks about them).

This is so interesting. I love the hosts comment that he would like to see her as Mrs. Lovett and she said, oh sure. Oh well.

Regis: I'm looking at you, you know, when I see you on stage, in these Sondheim musicals and these great roles...

Bernadette: I'm not as dippy.

Thanks for posting that link. I stumbled across that yesterday as I was frantically trying to re-subscribe to XM and then didn't remember where I had seen it.

The "Hair" nude scene, at the very end of a song, lasted all of about 5 seconds and multicolored lights dropped, then went to black. It was over before you had a chance to really, uhh, recognize anyone.

My computer wouldn't let me listen to it. I hate it when that happens. Can someone please tell me some things that she said?
