Many many thank yous for the great report. I made the "tease" comment in jest, hope I did not offend.
Wow, I love the way she is ending the show with that Irving Berlin tune. That is amazing.

How was she sounding vocally? I imagine the months of rest was well needed...

Thanks, Dulcinea. I've already reread your excellent post many times.

The song line-up sounds just perfect. I so much want to see this concert! The locations aren't convenient to me, but I'm seriously trying to figure out a way to catch at least one.

    quote:
I hate to say it but I know the second song was Unexpected Song, but is there one about a letter too or is that just the beginning of Unexpected?
Throughout the show,Emma "writes" (sings) letters home to her mother and friends. In the new version of the show-now called Tell Me on a Sunday, since the dance section is no more-she emails her friends and writes to her mother (and bugs her about getting an online account, which is a cute running bit throughout the show and at the end). The part right before "Unexpected Song" is one of the letters home. Bernadette sings the letter home that she sang in the show (Song & Dance),but this letter home is totally different in the new Tell Me on a Sunday-the character sings/emails the news about her new boyfriend to her friends, while the older letter, which Bernadette sings,is to the character's mother(some of the other letters and references have been changed/updated,there are new songs, and the ending is different).

That is,I'm assuming Bernadette's singing the older version (the one about Joe being midwestern). In the new one,the new guy is a fashion photographer and he's younger.

Someone asked how she was vocally. To me as a fan with an untrained ear she sounded just great, but couldn't comment on specifics as to notes or pitch or anything like that. My mom, who is not a Bernadette fan, said that her concert was very enjoyable and entertaining.

Also thanks for the explanation of Song and Dance. Unfortunately I have never seen it and don't have the CD from when Bernadette was in it either. I discovered her late I guess. I did really like Unexpected Song though.

A few of the songs I had never heard before and so I may have made up titles just from words in the chorus.

I wonder if anyone went to tonight's concert.

yes the show at ruth eckerd was amazing. it was funny as can be when the mic wasn't plugged in she even asked the sound techs if they forgot to plug it in. and i have to admit i was surprised when she sang fever.
and i think the ground keeper might have to relay the sod they had just laid outside the stage door...i kept sinking into it oh well the price for fun. and if y'all can...go to one of her shows it is well worth it

What a lovely write-up, dulcinea4, you told me exactly what I like to know about her concert, down to the clothing, patter, audience, and after-wards.

Nothing from AGYG? I'd think that it would be required to sing something from a Tony-winning performance!

Cheers...

(You mentioned that her manager said something about a prior concert--I wonder who her manager is these days?)

Bernadette did mention the fact that this time there wasn't anything from AGYG cuz she did those songs last time she performed at Ruth Eckerd Hall. I guess the last concert tour before her R&H CD?

Also about her manager...The guy I am referring to has gray hair and is tall. (It may not be her manager, but I happen to recognize him at the concert only cuz he is in pictures I have from her Buffalo concert, one of which is of me and Bernadette and is in my room.)

Are you sure it wasn't Marvin Laird, her conductor?

Sure it wasn't Marvin cuz he left in a packed car which included Cubby and his wife in the front seat and they left way before Bernadette came out. Marvin was sweet though and stopped the car and signed 2 (dare I say "kids" b/c they are old enough to be my students) tshirts before pulling away.
