Does anyone know if there is a recording of On the Town when Bernadette was in it? Or if there is a recording of her singing any song form it?

At the Tony Awards this past June, in the New York medley she sang with Gregory Hines, there were a few lines from "New York, New York". Also, on her CD "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight", she sings 2 from On the Town: "I Feel Like I'm Not Out of Bed Yet", and "Some Other Time".

I've never seen or heard of a recording of the 1970 (?) revival with Bernadette.

No, I don't think a cast album was ever recorded. I know one was never released. I always wondered about that because back in those days practically everything got a cast album, even shows that only played a few days. Maybe there were legal problems in obtaining the recording rights? In his book Beautiful Mornin' the theatre historian Ehan Mordden described the production as "superb", "vital", and "one of the most impressive revivals Broadway has ever seen." He also said the women involved, BP, Donna Mckechnie and Pyllis Newman were all "excellant" That show from Fall 1971 brought Bernadette her first Tony nomination. The music in that show is so great that it's a disapointment not to have her version of it available. I always wish Bernadette would sing more Bernstein, but I guess she has enough on her plate as it is.

Yeah, wouldn't you give a week's salary (or, in my case, a month's pension) to hear-and see-her do "I Can Cook, Too"; the only song she sings that really gets to me is Some Other Time- no idea why.

And, speaking of wishes, I'd sure like to see her do the Arlen medley she did years ago. Yes, I have several versions on video, but somehow, live is better.

Absolutely. Tha Arlen medley was a masterpiece of musical arrangement and performance. I remember thinking "My God, this woman has guts to stand up there and dare to sing both 'The Man That Got Away' and 'Over the Rainbow'. But she did and she not only got away with it, she made it beautiful and her own. 'I Can Cook Too', I remember seeing her perform on both the Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin shows. It was utterly delicious , but unfortunately about ten years too early for VCRs. 'Some Other Time' is just one of those heart-brakingly beautiful songs. The version on the first cast album with Comden and Green and Nancy Walker has always been one of my all-time favorites. Speaking of different composers, I've always wondered why Bernadette never sings(sang)Cole Porter. With her gift for language and difficult phrasing and her sense of humour you'd think she would be a natural for his material. I wonder if she just doesn't feel a rapport, or what exactly. I would love to hear her asked about that in an in-depth interview.

Oops! Sorry for the typos. I meant the song broke your heart, not that it put the brakes on it. LOL.
