Didn't Tonya Pinkins performance remind you of like the African American version of Rose's Turn? lol. And was it me or did she sound REALLY off?

No, it wasn't just you. I thought Pinkins started very strong and then sort of lost her way midway through. She sounded to me at a couple of times like she was having pitch problems. Could have been nerves.

Don't know about you guys, but as a classical singer, my vocal chords hurt just listening to her. The way she pushes her voice like that (and doing it 8+ times a week), it's no wonder she was cracking all over the place. Although, she did have a marvelous presence and I admire her ability to give 150%.

Idina Menzel? Oh my God, I did not predict that at all. Well, good for her. An upset, right?

Idina Menzel's win an upset? It was the only logical choice. She HAD NO competition. I am not the biggest WICKED fan, but if that show has anything, it's Idina and her marvelous acting and performing skills.

Don't take this wrong, because I'm a long time fan of hers, but Donna Murphy did not look well. She's always been thin, but she's past the point of thin now. She looked like she's either anorexic or perhaps has a chronic medical condition. Is that why she's had to be out sick so many days? It looked frightening and disturbing.

She did have some voice problems there, no doubt, as did some of the other performers (the "Wicked" number in particular, whew!). I have never performed on television, but some folks I've worked with have, and they always comment about hard difficult it is to hear what you are doing in those situations. The monitor mixes are never the way you want them to be, and the audio engineers seem more concerned with the sound levels going out to the broadcast feed than anything else. Not to mention the extra jolt of nerves that you can get singing "live" on tv.

Not to mention the nerves brought on by performing in a hall the size of Radio City. Very few people have experience in a space like that.

Well not to mention that these people who are singing have been singing 8 performances a week-some of them doing shows the very same day...so I'm sure they are a little fatigued vocally and physically.
