Hi! I just got a copy of the "Into the Woods" show that aired on PBS
and I simply LOVED it! I think that show is so good...it was really
funny too...especially Bernadette. I mean I've never seen her on
Broadway, just movies and I had read reviews about her "comic ability"
and they were SO right (not that I doubted them) she has great timing.
Anyway, the show was really cool. I also got a few other things but
haven't had time to watch them. -Eric

One of my favorite lines that she delivers perfectly in that show:
"Some of us don't like the way you've been telling it."

Hey, Ben! That's one of my favs to...I love the little thing she does with her

schpele about the giant.

Hehehe she's great! Even the stuff where she doesn't say anything... when
Chip Zien says his line about how someone told him a giant never strikes the
same place twice and she gives him this look, that was hilarious!

I LOVE that part too! Her makeup was done so well too I mean she was
hardly recognizable and then she just transformed so
quickly...awesome! -Eric

This is a really fun video, but I'm so sorry that you couldn't have seen the
show live. It's really quite a different experience (obviously). I always
felt that the show should have been redirected for the video rather than
performed for the large audience. I think the performances come off looking a
little overblown -- except for Joanna Gleason, whose performance transferred
quite wonderfully to the video.

I saw the original cast of Into the Woods from the front row back in 1988. It
was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! I'm a huge Sondheim fan
anyway, but I thought he completely outdid himself on this project and the
cast was flawless. Bernadette was fabulous and looked like a million bucks!!!
But it was truly an ensemble piece and I don't think Bernadette minded sharing
the stage - and the hearts of the audience -- with Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien,
and Kim Crosby. That's what I call a true star.

from what i remember it was unbelievable... I was 6. I did, however, meet
Bernadette and the entire cast, that part i remember quite vividly (i
stillcan't get over it... i was backstage... i touched milky white... put
on the golden slipper, etc... was disappointed to elarn that the giant was a
thin piece of cardboard... lol)

I agree. I lovw it when she says "Some of us don't like the way you have
been telling the story" to the narrator.

Ok, some of my fav Bernadette ITW moments:

1) When she has to hit the tower to get Rapnzel's attention.
2) Act 2 Scene 1, where she's like "Much, MUCH bigger....... SO BIG.."
3) The whole "Witch's Lament" - - great dramatic content
4) Where she says "Wake UP!!!! People are dying all around you. You're not
the only one to suffer a loss." - - again, it's just the dramatic way she
said the line.
5) The pose she gives to the audience after the transformation.
6) Where she's in the balcony and turns to talk to the little kid in the
audience. Oh, and same part, the way she sayd "The cow is gooooone, get it
baaaack."
7) "You should see my nactarines." - - that's a given! everyone luvs that!

Also, I like the whole message in THE LAST MIDNIGHT. The way she sings it and
what Sondheim was trying to say, it really made me think.
There's more, but hey, I haven't got the strength in my fingers to type it
all.

I LOVE "The Last Midnight" and I LOVE the part about "The cow is
goooneee...get it baaaccck". Plus when she's talking to the baker and
his wife, and Joanna says "We should tell someone" and Bernadette
looks around and says "who ya gonna tell?". Priceless! -Eric

can i just say once again how disappointed i am in the little f--ker!!!
really now, not to be patronizing, and i know most of you are very young,
but come-on; we all fell for it, and if anyone does get some substantial
ways to get ahold of her(other than calling her and getting hung up on)

Some of my other fav moments in Into the Woods with Bernadette would be

1. Nothing cooking in there now is there?
2. When Rapunzel is deciding whether to go with the prince or the witch
and BP does that Cute smile and hand gesture. Then when she tries
to cast the spell and it doesn't work.
3. When she says "Would you like a blind girl instead?"
4. When she says "He was crying over her like she were his own mother"
about Javck crying over the Baker's Wife. Her voice is SO cold!
5. When in the Act II finale she sings the "Unhappy ever aftwer" bit w/ the
stepsisters then
pushes them away.
6. When she drinks the potion then "chokes" I don't why that intrigues
me.
7. When Bernadette says "I was only trying to be a good mother!"

Great moments, Todd. That's one of my fav lines too, "She was sobbing over
her like she was his own mother." It reminds me of another good one, "Fools,
there's no where to hide..........blah blah blah.........And if we don't,
she'll kill haof the kingdom..........It's because of that boy there's a giant
in our land. While you stand here arguing, I'll find that boy and serve him
to the giant for lunch."
Isn't it almost sad that I know that whole thing? I've memorized her entire
part, and The Baker's Wife, those are the two roles in the show I'd most like
to play. Although the narrator isn't bad too. I just wouldn't double as The
Baker's Father. Lol.

You lose a very important connection if you don't double those parts. Think
about who begins to tell the story and at the end who is telling the story.
This is a fable passed from father to son... and do on. If you don't double
the casting you completely lose this. (I did this show a few years ago and

okay...I feel better about over analyzing things now: This was my take on
it....the narrator was actually the baker all grown up(or possibly the bakers
son) I got that from when the bakers wife says "tell them the story....and the
baker says "once upon a time...." I hope that makes some sense.

No, it's really more literal than that. The Narrator is the Mysterious Man
who turns out to be the Baker's father. The Baker then tells the story to his
son - in the very same words.

Day Dream Productions here in Maine is doing ITW and they have a girl
Narrator, and they have somebody else playing the father. *Shrug* IT's
gonna be a completely different approach at the show than I've ever
heard of... there's gonna be addins to the script, etc... they're gonna
have dancers playign the trees and the birds and stuff like that.... it
should be fun... as far as I know I'm LIttle Red Riding Hood's
Understudy and the Witch's Body Double. (You know that scene where she
transforms... people were really barkin' at me last year on the
messageboard because I thought it was BP the entire time and I'm 12...
sheesh.) Anyways.... I'm gonna have fun.. have an audition today at 6!
YAY!!! Boys from Syracuse... singing Where Are the Simple Joys of
Maidenhood? from Camelot... I should have fun LOL.... Luv ya all!

Amy (BPkid4... mwahahaha.... yeah Noelle, I took your idea.)
