Marni Nixon could be Madame Guirry (sp?), I guess. She'd proably be
pretty good! For those of you who don't know, Marni Nixon is famous
being the singing voice for many actresses, including Audrey Hepburn
and Natalie Wood.

I think Marni's voice is too light for Guiry, not haunting enough.

Madonna is playing Velma? Where do you get all this info? I didn't

Please tell me where you get your stuff!!!

That's because she didn't need to be! I mean, when she was doing
voice-overs, it was for the lead females of "The King and I," "West
Side Story," and "My Fair Lady!" Not exactly the most haunting
scores in the world.

Bec, I hate to say it, but don't go ragging Kate Winslet unless you
know what you're talking about! Did YOU see her perform? I don't
think so! For all you know, she may have done a wonderful job!
And those of you who have seen her, tell us what you thought.

I can't believe we are discussing whether Kate Winslet can sing or not. She
would probably be scream-laughing to know that this is a topic of
conversation. Has ANYONE on this list really seen her perform in a musical?
If so, I would truly like to hear from you. If not, this is all just
speculation, which is fine. But everyone is entitled to their own uninformed
opinion. I personally go a little crazy when I hear that someone has been
cast in a role because they have a name and that name will sell tickets. I
know that's what the "business" is about, but I hate to see really talented
Broadway actors (who are better trained and who have paid their dues) get
passed over for "movie stars" because producers have $$$ in their eyes. I
think the film suffers and the musical genre suffers. I have the same issues
with animated films, but that's another story altogether.

As for Madonna playing Velma - I'm not sure where I heard that. Same place I
heard that Goldie Hawn was going to be playing Roxie. Who knows if and when
this will actually materialize. They've been talking about a movie of "Into
the Woods" for years too (I've even heard some of the cuts from it), but so
far nothing has happened.

What I say is simply my humble and honest opinion. I do not profess to
be a kate Winslet expert, but my opinion stands.

I totally agree with you Chloe, and this has been a personal gripe of
mine for some time! 'big name' doesn't necessarily equate with 'big
talent'!!
