See headers | My magnet school drama department is looking for its end of the year
production and my teacher is having a slight problem coming up with a
script. For one thing...we've got about a dozen girls and one guy
(two at the most). So, I've come to you (I know this is WAAAAAAAY off
topic of Bernadette Peters, but hey...we're kind of desperate). If
anybody knows about any plays (musicals possibly) that would work, or
that could be altered (sex changes, or cutting out characters) for us
to do? If you could just email me back, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks a bunch.

See headers | this might sound a little strange but peter pan can be altered a lot and
usually peter is played by a girl anyway and then you can just make the lost
boys the lost girls! lol ....ignore me--you said you're desperate so i
thought i'd chime in but as i read over my idea i don't know why i bothered.

See headers | There's a great play that only requires one guy and seven girls... COME BACK
TO THE FIVE AND DIME JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN. It's a great story, great
parts, funny, dramatic. That's the only one off the top of my head that
doens't require alot of men.
Hope that helps.
It's by Ed Graczyk.

We did Pippin with two guys this summer at Drama camp. We had Pippin and
the Lead Player as guys. Pippin is really the only person who has to be a
guy though. Anything Goes may work too. Depending on how "censored" your
drama department is. You could probably get away with doing The Importance
of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde) or Rhinocerous (I can't remember the author).
Or God and Poker. Have you guys considered the possibility of doing a
few short plays in one night? Most short plays only have a few guys or are
very flexible with characters. Barefoot in the Park and Spoon River
Anthology may work too.

Also, there's a female version of The Odd Couple. I've never seen it, but
it's worth a try!

Hey! I go to an all girls school, I feel you pain. My suggestion is
"Ruthless" by Joel Paley. It is hilarious, and full of "theatre" jokes. It
spoofs Gypsy and a ton of other shows. There are some great girls parts. It
was an off broadway show about ten years back.(Brittany Spears played one of
the little girls!)
If you need a full stage musical, Brigadoon is perfect. All you need it 2
guys.
Nunsense(I go to a catholic school, so it worked)
The Female Odd Couple, by Neil SImon (Hilarious!! you'll need 2 guys)
the play version of Steel Mags, and also Little women if you're up for
classics.
Hope I helped!

Charlie and Harry.

LOL its funny you mention that, Livvy. We changed the part of Tommy's
sidekick, Jack into Jackie. Its a great part for a girl. In regards to the
plot, Meg Brockie hit on Harry instead of Jack. SO the only boys we needed
were Tommy, Harry, and Charlie(but you're right we needed 3 guys)

Lol. I was thinking, why don't you guys just do a cabaret? Everyone can do
two musical numbers (like a first act/intermission thing). That gives
everyone a solo (or if you wanted to do duets or something), it's from
Broadway shows, and there's no real "lead" so it's a little less
competitive.

To everybody who replied, thank you soooooooo much! My drama teacher is
loving this...she's going to read a lot of the plays over winter break.
We wrote our first production, and our next one actually is a cabaret. Next
year they're going to be looking for a lot more boys.
Anyway, I really appreciate it. Oh, and by the way...Happy Holidays!
